I think I misnamed Golden Mic syndrome as the mic was just one aspect of the syndrome and you have all mentioned valid reasons for using your own mic . . . health, drunks, etc.
It should have been Golden Sound syndrome as that better reflects the problem.
When a KJ does nothing to insure good sound except when they or their "buddies" are up that is the real problem.
