Well I took the plunge.

I opted for the EMX5000 ($649.00) Due to 2 Effects Sends which allow me to set music effects and mic effects to 2 separate settings. Also it has a maximum output switch that lets me adjust the output to suit the venue and the input capacity of the speakers. The output for 8ohms is 340 watts, and 500 watts per channel @ 4ohms. It has a 26 db buffer switch for each channel that I think will come in quite handy for mic channels. It allows both RCA and 1/4 hookups for my computer and player.

I finally found someone at guitar center who knew both mackie and yamaha inside out and answered my questions completely, then hooked both up for me to run side by side. Both were excellent but yamaha appears to be the best choice for my venues and speaker inventory and effects needs. Of course I have a 30 day return privilage to swap out for the mackie so it's kind of a no brainer.

The oddest thing when I set the equilizer I have to turn the bass  down -5 or more.
When I first set it the stage shook like an earth quake from so much bass.
I work in a small venue with a tin roof - talk about hard to set audio.
The best part about this amp is I have so much more power.
I had a small crowd last night, not a lot of bodies to eat up sound. I had to be very careful not to set it to loud.

Just a quick update on the Yamaha EMX5000 after my first 2 shows.

It's an awesome board and the on-board effects are great. I don't miss my Yorkville now!  Don't get me wrong, they make a great product and it served me well for 8 years, but technology has come a long way in that amount of time.  :worship:

The Yamaha has a clean quiet sound that is really amazing and has more power than I could imagine I would ever need. It weighs less than my previous board by say 6lbs. I don't know how it will hold up but I hope I get another 8 years of service.

Hey Metalgod thank you for your suggestion...it made me take a closer look at this board.

Yeah I'm loving mine also dont forget to protect your investment with anice case from skb or anyone else for that matter

My yorkville softcase fit this one. Once I get it repaired and back from the factory I'm gonna purchase a good hard case for the yamaha. Until then the soft case will work just fine.
