NZ relys upon export to exist...the french held the NZ govt to ransom to get their spys back. simply they refused to allow NZ goods to be exported and sold within EEC countries if we didnt do as they wished...so I guess you can add extortion to their list of crimes
So France is the only one that allows exporting from New Zealand? Don't you guys export to other countries?

The reason I asked is who cares what ONE country says about you. There are always other markets.

Thanks Vicki!

I guess you misunderstood Matt...but no matter, to be honest my knowledge of free trade agreements is hazy at best, for instance we have no free trade agreement with the USA because we refuse to allow your nuclear powered/armed ships in our waters. The USA say well if you take that kind of stand we will refuse you a free trade agreement. We do still maintain that policy...but the change of govt may well see that tip over. As to the European market I would have to research if you really want to know. All I can tell you is the Labour govt turned the murderers over to the french govt because they were protecting export markets. The scum were supposed to serve sentences in their own country, THAT was the deal. They arrived home to a heros welcome and no sentence was served. edit...yes of course we export to other countries but something obviously would have prevented us from exporting to europe had the french had their way, which is why we were held to ransom...I could research if you were really interested, but I doubt you are that fascinated :)

For those of you who mentioned what FDR took over was a mess, I completely agree. The one thing that FDR had going that Mr Obama doesn't is that in Sept 1939, World War II began. Even though the USA was technically neutral, they did supply Great Britain and other allied nations with food and material which in turn helped build up the manufacturing sector. Those two years (before entering the war) provided the US with a lot of export income and coming out of a depression, this was an economical godsend.

I do not envy the man and concerned about him when most likely his ideas and changes will not occur due to the economy. If it doesn't occur, he will go from hero to zero rapidly. Hope and change without action and/or ability are just words.

actually they werent exactly neutral. It was against the law for US fighter pilots to enter into the Battle of Britain. Some 8 fighter pilots flouted US law and flew anyway. Only about 2 survived. If there had been a law passed, that hardly seems like neutrality does it?

Well maybe not in this thread. I just was very curious about something that happened and like you mentioned, poof, just went away.

I ALSO didn't know about the US ban due to the Nueclear Ships! Very interesting!

I think the man has done something already tougher than the economy, hlth care and all he's gonna face. The man became the first black president of the UNITED STATES.He's communicater, listener and knows that some want him to fail and some think he will fail. He's got to much at stake to fail, too much.He did the impossible and now he's gonna do what should have been done.

Wow.... been away a long time, and when I get back, I see a thread like this! All I can say is .....

It's been a long long time since I was PROUD of how my country has behaved and been viewed in the world. It's been HORRIBLE!! The BUSH Adminstration has been an embarrassing disgrace to our country .... and our country is in a crisis like we haven't seen since the great depression because of trickle down economics and unregulated spending. We have been involved in a a war that NEVER should have happened .... which has killed more americans than the event that spawned it
~~ 9-11.

But come January, we will be out from under the BUSH adminstration (and those that govern and think like him), with a new president, who, whether everyone likes him or not, will bring intelligence and thoughtfulness back to our nation's capital ... and will at least open the ears of countries that have "shut us off", for the last 4 yrs.

I'm tired of seeing Americans die in an unwinable conflict that didn't need to happen, I'm tired of seeing Americans starving on American streets, I'm tired of watching family and friends lose jobs and homes they've poured their entire lives into. I'm tired of watching and hearing people say that they wonder how they'll pay their next electric bill or buy their next groceries. I'm tired of going to funerals of friends who died because they didn't have health insurance to see a doctor, or money to buy medicine. I'm tired of worrying about what our generation will leave to our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Fearful??? About Obama? Not a bit ... I've been FEARFUL for our country for the last 8 yrs.

What I am feeling is thankful for the CHANGE that will come ... I have HOPE again.

From one who has been over there and traveled roads that most didnt make it back. You Are Tired? When you want to know what is going on at 34th and Main Street then you go down there and observe for yourself. Dont believe what you see in the movies or on Tv or esp on the internet. You Are Tired Are Ya? You dont know what tired and frustration is. You have no idea what sacrifice and dedication it takes for a cause. I hope and I will support Obama to the hilt. Words are Words. Action is Action. My life is on the line for those things I believe in. Is Yours?

WALL STREET JOURNAL, November 17, 2008
Quote:
President-elect Barack Obama continued to fill out staff positions for his incoming administration during the weekend, with many of the new appointees having Clinton White House pedigrees.

Gregory B. Craig, a former State Department official who also served as former President Bill Clinton's impeachment lawyer, will be named White House counsel, serving as Mr. Obama's chief lawyer, Democratic officials said.

Mr. Craig advised Mr. Obama on foreign policy during the presidential campaign and was one of the first prominent aides to Sen. Hillary Clinton to defect from her campaign during the primaries.

The Obama transition team also said Mr. Obama's former Senate chief of staff, Pete Rouse, will serve as a senior White House adviser. Mr. Rouse had previously been Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle's chief of staff before the South Dakotan's election defeat in 2002, and with Mr. Daschle's aid, he helped build Mr. Obama's Senate office.

Mona Sutphen, a former special assistant to Mr. Clinton's national-security adviser, Sandy Berger, was named deputy chief of staff. Ms. Sutphen had been a managing director of Stonebridge International LLC, an international consulting firm that advises multinational corporations. Another Stonebridge managing director, Michael Warren, is leading the transition's auditing team at the Treasury Department.

The new names join a list that includes senior Clinton White House veterans, such as Rahm Emanuel, now Mr. Obama's White House chief of staff, and Ron Klain, a top aide to Vice President Al Gore who will be Vice President-elect Joe Biden's chief of staff.

"Rounding out" the new cabinet with Hilary as Secretary Of State will leave little doubt in most rational minds just how much "change" the new administration will actually deliver. And just consider who will be, therefore, representing the foreign policy of the new administration -- Hilary Clinton who voted for the war!

Geez, spare me all of the hyperbole. You want to see big change so you believe that you will. Open up your eyes - IT'S POLITICS AS USUAL! I'm with you Timberlea

shes just an advisor, not the President. First you guys whine about Obama being a wuss and withdrawing troops, and now you whine that Hillary will take us to war. Maybe you should go live with TimberLea up in that eutopian Canadian society if it sucks so bad here now. You guys would make a cute couple :banger:

Dumbdrums,

Clearly, since it wasn't me, it must have been you who was responsble for all of the whining you just whined about. Don't you remember?

On the other hand, if you are so sure about the whining statements you just attributed to me, why not find one quote and re-print it. If you do, I'll print it out here and eat it while taking a picture of my doing so for this thread.

On the other hand, if you don't find any such quote from me, I expect you to print out you last quote, eat it, take a picture of you doing so and post that picture on the thread.

I've got ketchup ready and I'm waiting. I suspect I'll starve if I have to wait for you to find said quote!

Lastly, where in my last post was any comment made by anyone that Hilary was going to take us to war? I guess my comments really scared the ____ out of you and now you're realizing that engaging Ms Clinton maybe a signal from your messiah that he is not intending to get us out of this war so quickly. Is that what you're whining/worried about?

Anyway I'm waiting to see my dinner or yours.

Dumbdrums, at least Eric and I can be a couple in "Utopia" not "Eutopia" Canada if we choose to be. Try that inthe majority your country.

It looks like change means Clinton for the most part. Also don't forget Mr Obama stated he plans to pull troops from Iraq and place them in Afghanistan.
