Dumbdrums, 98 Canadian Service personnel (including a female Captain) and one diplomat have been killed in Afghanistan. We weren't forced to go, we lost 24 Canadians in those terrorist attacks of 9/11.

Of these, 78 were due to hostile circumstances, including 45 due to improvised explosive devices (IED) or landmines, 22 due to rocket-propelled grenade, small arms or mortar fire, and 11 due to suicide bomb attacks. An additional 19 soldiers have died in accidents or other non-combat circumstances; 6 due to "friendly fire", 6 in vehicle accidents, 2 from accidental falls, 2 from accidental gunshots, 1 suicide death and 2 unspecified non-combat-related deaths including 1 at a support base in the Persian Gulf.

We have at any one time about 2,500 service personnel (and a number of ciivilian support personnel) and have been involved in some of the heaviest fighting. The Taliban call us Red Dogs (an insult) but we wear it with pride as it shows they are very afraid of us as in actual combat we've lost only 22 members. In military speak this is an extremely low number when looked at in light of the number of fire fights we've been in. There best weapons against us is the cowardly use of IEDs and suicide bombers.

A Canadian sniper also holds the record of the longest confirmed kill at 2,430 m (about 1.5 miles). It took two shots. The first shot hit a paper bag being held by the target. The rounds had to be aimed about 100m above the target to take in account the drop of the round as it travelled through the air.

just to let you- all know, I have nothing against other countrys, just have a problem

With all due respect, Karyoker........ you know absolutely NOTHING about me, my life, what I have seen, what I have lived, what frustrations and difficulties I have endured, what sacrifices I have made or what actions I have taken to right social injustices. You have NO IDEA what hells I've lived ... You know NOTHING about me...... do you now? I assume you are a vet from all you've said on here, and for that I thank you for whatever sacrafices you've made ..... and for putting your life on the line for this country that we BOTH obviously LOVE, but aparently have some opposite views on how to make it a better place.

I make no assumptions about you that may not be true or fair, nor do I challenge your point of view or right to have it. Part of what I love about this country is being able to openly express my point of view... and to hear what others think and feel. What I have come to dislike greatly is being "attacked" for my thoughts and feelings. If you feel so strongly about this country, why do you feel the need to attack someone, simply because perhaps they haven't experienced what you have or feel/think as you do? Isn't what you fought so hard for exactly that ..... the right to say and think openly? Have I ever layed down my life for another? Is that what "Is Yours", is asking? Well, I won't go into any great detail but to simply say ... I have given of myself in many many ways to many many people.... just not as a soldier. There is honor and pride and love of country that is strong and noble, even from those of us who have not worn the uniform. And many of us would die so others could have a better life, too..... we've just chosen other venues to give of ourselves.

I respect your right to express yourself, and your right to make the choices for your life that work for you. All I ask is the same in return.

P.S. Hey Mikey and Matt. Thanks for the hello! Been a long time since I've been here just 'cause I've been awful busy.... I've taken on three jobs in the last year and been doing a lot with a couple of local shelters around here....and I also worked for the Obama/Biden campaign quite a bit, so haven't had a lot of "hang out and chat" time. But.... it is nice to be able to "come home" once in a while..... and it made me smile to read your friendly words.

CC I see nothing in that post that had any personal overtones I attacked a liberal lying press and moaners that cry and expect the government to bail them out. They have drug this nation down to nothing It is broke. I am tired of their super sensitiviy and wanting to tell everybody what they can say. They want the big dream but want shortcuts and do not want to work for it.

As for you respecting women, and not hitting them .... this is a real good thing. I too respect women, and men .... even those that differ in opinion with me... and I would never HIT or Kick Butt ... to make my point. And I have a parent your age, Karyoker, and they would not be involved in bar room brawls, or kicking butt to prove points.... and they DID wear the uniform.... the uniform of the NAVY in WW II, and the Korean war, so I have a hard time accepting that your approach is "generational"... I tend to think it has more to do with attitude and intolerance, but then again, I may have read your reply in a way in which you didn't intend it.
