Singing is tougher for me than golf would've been.  Golf was easier to quit because nobody would play with me.. This although tough, is more important to me to learn so I'm not throwing in the towel, but it's HARD..  Those of you that CAN sing, you're dang good musicians, don't short-change yourself by believing if you can sing decently, you're not a musician, Karaoke or not, singing is singing, and it's tough. I respected you folks for your abilities all along, and now it's been confirmed in my head you folks DO have a skill not all have, or will be able to have.

Example of how we don't all get pampered and told 'We are great" by our mothers.  I think it's great that my mom is being honest with me regarding this singing stuff..

Example, I tried A Hermans Hermits song thru compression singing a song she recalls, I thought I did a great job initially, this was her preception..
(after I started petting myself on the back for my newly discovered FX no-less)

=====================================================

HER:        Steve,  Is that your voice?  It sounds very strange

ME:        On second thought, I just relistened to the song thru speakers and IT STINKS !  Blech, amazing how a few hours can make a person realize how crappy a job they did in an area of aesthetics. Something they couldn't perceive right off the bat

HER:      I'm glad you agree.  It was very odd and I couldn't figure out what you were attempting to do.  You don't need to try new things.  Your voice has improved greatly so just leave it alone. Sing as naturally as you can and with that, your voice will in time get stronger.

      I'm glad I have parents that are able to tell me when I suck at something !!!

I took 3 weeks off in intensive vocal damage class... I'm determined to be a rock tenor when I grow up.. Problem is the 8 packs of ciggies a day (to make up for lost time) is costing me a fortune !

http://www.singsnap.com/snap/watchandli ... /c311ae46a

Take two- Wondering if I should distance myself from the microphone or sing this in headvoice... Dunno

(take two deleted) no go :(

This is one of the worst songs for somebody like me to be singing, but the problem is, this is a GORGEOUS song, and I need to get my fair attempts at hacking it, it's just to pretty to not sing... I think perhaps if I formed a coverband named "The Scabies", it'd do my rendition of this love ballad justice :( Final attempt...

So that's the name of that song! It wasn't very painful at all Steven -- not bad! :)

"Isn't it Time" is the title Don... This song, and "Everytime I think of you" were huge 70's hits... John Waite was the vocalist for this group. He had a pretty high voice.

I think this softer stuff works better. I can live with that. Considering all I want is to attempt to come near the cover

[font=Comic Sans MS]Hey Steven,

I couldn't listen to the last one, because it says it's "not available in my area", lol...Well, I have listened to "Killing me softly" though...one of my first, when I started singing, btw. ;)

Because you asked for critique, I would like to say this, even if I'm not sure, if I'm the right person. First off, I would try to find songs that fit my range, that makes it easier and I nor have to push, nor make the song sound strange...
Also, I would not hide behind too many effects, but use decent ones...A tad of reverb sounds always good. I also would try to find the right ballance between vox and backing...none of them should be too loud, and last, but not least...I would try to feel the song, as if it was wrote for me ;) New songs can be easily learned by listening close to the original, then singing along to get the feel for. Printing the lyrics and making notes can also help a lot, especialy when the timing is tricky...

Your take was not that bad, but I could barely hear you..Only the chorus was sung a bit louder, but the backing singers were as well..which made it again a bit difficult.
I would like to hear that you are a bit more self confident when you sing and that you put more power into it...unless you want to sound like somebody who's only reading the lyrics. I know you try hard to learn to sing and I admire you for that. You're kinda amazing!...Though it's a long way...I'm sure you'll make it, one day. You have the will and lots of potential, for sure :)

Have fun now!

Thank you. Yes, "The Will" I have:)

Btw, I'm on my new laptop, and I can't hear myself singing "Killing me Softly" either. I record on my desktop, but I'm going to now listen to the song balance on my notebook systems prior to posting them. Since the songs I sing are just "point and shoot" material off've sites that offer a library, but not edited of mixed, balances on these songs seems to differ from time to time, however I'm pretty certain that if I can hear my voice on one of the notebook systems, I'm sung loud enough.. Thanks again for listening and your help is much appreciated !

Yeah, I know, it's almost embarassing to have to edit now, huh? :oops:

So, if there's any here... they are staying put. (now that I've opened my big mouth)

I was going to be funny and edit a post, like, 25 times in a popular thread somewhere, just to see who would notice and say something about it. ROFL
