This post has brought some great response, but the best has to be Vicki's link to Helen Austin.
With a single-parent Mother, 3 sisters, wife, daughter, sundry female moggies, I've grown up with strong, independent women (bit of a closet feminist, perhaps) and found the said Ms Austin just perfect.
THANK YOU, VICKI!!! (probably the most widely used phrase on this site)
Ian

I sang "Dancing With A Man" last Friday night at the Legion Club. It got laughs.

There's a big guy at one of my venues that sometimes sings "Like A Virgin" with this deep, gruff voice. I always call it "the prison version".

The funniest song that I did was "Phantom of the Opera" (duet). This may not sound funny, but I introduced it as a schizoprenic version (one person/two parts), and after the performance I told the crowd, "Thank you from both of us". The crowd started laughing hysterically.

Not karaoke - but I heard the original recording of "There's A Hole In My Bucket" the other day.

I grew up knowing this as a nursery rhyme and really hating it.  But having heard the way it was delivered it really is quite funny.  It's all in the  emphasis!

I wrote a parody to that about my experience with a particular real estate agent

Post it :)

I believe "real estate agent" is just what we call "estate agent" (person who sells houses)?  If so - I'd not go so far as writing a song, but really just get a gun and go postal!

yeah but your way of selling houses sucks darlin...over your part of the world people can pull out of a deal right up to the day they take the keys...here you have a period of time when you may pull out and not lose your deposit (providing you have a good reason for it...ie the L.I.M or the builders report were not up to par or you cant get finance) after that due date the sale goes unconditional and you cannot get out of it.
its far fairer for vendor and the buyer and of course its fair on the estate agent also.

The parody kinda would lose its punch if you dont know the woman, she is the ultimate dumb blonde

Somebody mentioned "The Lumberjack Song." I did that one once. Some people thought it was funny. The rest had a look on their faces like "What the hell was that?" I think Monty Python is like the Three Stooges: either you think they're hilarious or the stupidest thing you've ever seen.

Monty Python has a number of good ones:
"Sit On My Face"
"Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life"
"The Galaxy Song" (a personal favorite)
"The (@$%&#!) Song"

What about "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" by They Might Be Giants?

Oh tell me about it. "Sold" my last place 3 times before I had a legit buyer! Again this was down to the estate agent being full of ****

From times before we were born :) Lord Kitchner's "If your Mother & Your Wife Are Drowning" has to be one of them!

If your Mother & your Wife were drowning
I want to know which one you will be saving
As for me, I'll hold on to my Mother
And my wife, she'l have to excuse Dear Johnny,
For I can Always get another wife
But I can Never get another Mother in my life!

Rodney Carrington has MANY funnies that I LOVE! No, I won't post lyrics here :))

:))

my partner and I like doing funny songs.he does

"hows your whole?"
"achey brakey song" (wierd al)(after somebody does a really "serious" country song)
"pussycat song"

I used to sing lola by the kinks a lot but got bored with it so started diong "yoda" by wierd al. from time to time i sing "oops I did it again", I do it much better than "man i feel like a woman" , but ive done that a couple times too.

we have an adult version of "summer nights" that gets a lot of requests.I think that gets done at about half our shows.
