My guess is that he means Rihanna's, not Madonna's... a different song.
Rihanna's is currently on the charts and is just beginning to get sung in my room. We're certainly not overdone on that one yet.
I'll tell you the new one that all the women have been after me to get. "I Kissed A Girl". Currently number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
I just got it and it will be released to the room on Thurs. My guess is that we're going to get pretty sick of it in my place over the next few weeks.

If you do Iron Maiden and Duffy Karen you'll blow them away!
Edit: ...and I've moved the rest of this to the KJ forum.

Bill H. @ Mon May 26, 2008 11:16 am wrote: One of my surprises when I started hosting karaoke was how popular "Turn The Page" is as a karaoke song. I would have suspected "Old Time R&R" (which gets sung maybe once for every 10 times "Turn The Page" does) or maybe "Night Moves", which hasn't been sung even once in my room yet.
Old Time R & R goes through alot of pitch changes through-out the song which can make it rather difficult for most to sing. Most people who've tried it at my shows have never done it again. Turn The Page and Night Moves stay pretty level in pitch, I've got a couple regulars who sing both of those. Neither are great, but I've heard MUCH worse.
Personally, the main song I hate with a passion is Picture. When that came out I had it at least 2 times a night because one of them was the bar manager. He would insist on singing it with his wife and I couldn't very well just close it off to anyone else, so, I had to compensate by spacing them out about an hour or two whenever possible. But, as a result, the song makes me wanna barf anytime I hear it now.
It was a good song, but it got murdered by airplay.

Okay, haven't seen this mentioned in the old or the new thread; so I must jump in. Is there anything worse than a drunk doing "Wonderful Tonight" or "Wanted Dead or Alive?" Has there ever been a show (outside of church) where a drunk didn't do one or both?

Actually neither come up more than a few times a year in my place. Every room is different though and each has it's peculiar quirks....
I don't have Dragula. I guess I'm going to have to pay a visit to that site in Australia and make a first time purchase over there. It's the only place to get it as far as I can tell. I've got worse than that sung/shouted in my place. I can live with it.

The original is in the key of "G" but the version I almost always set up for a singer is on my old Supercore set and in the more realistic key of "E". Instrumentally it's a good rendition. I've got a "G" version too and will sometimes pull that one for a female singer if I know what her range is. But the women who sing this one usually have husky voices so they get the Supercore version too.
Many more women sing "Old Time R&R" in my place than men. When it's sung at all.... once every 6-8 weeks on average.
edit: I don't even think Bob Seger sings in in the original key anymore.

you can get as a single track if you buy others to make the minimum requirements on http://www.mycdg.com . I've bought four custom discs from them.
I have the song on the original SC spotlight headbanger disc (not the Foundation 2), but the original one. I heard some time ago it was discontinued. Funny thing is, it's not showing up on kjpro!
The song is out on another manu but under DRACULA! !

Sorry about that.
I think it mostly has to do with the fact I have the same guy that always does it and screams the whole song. If you ever come for a visit Matt you'll have to sing it for me. I'd love to hear done right.
That's like American Pie. It always seems the people who sing the song are tone deaf. It makes an already long repitious song worse because they can't sing it.

I think many of Bob Seger's songs are deceptively difficult to sing. I can't imagine doing a whole concert of them like Bob did! Old Time Rock and Roll, Katmandu, and Rock and Roll Never Forgets all take alot of vocal endurance. Seger has a rocker voice, but it is pitched higher than alot of other rockers and you don't realize it until you try one of his songs. He sings with alot of energy, and if your voice starts to wear through halfway through the song, you will not last to the end! (Turn the Page must be his easiest song to sing )
As far as American Pie goes, alot of karaoke singers aren't used to singing songs that are very melodic, and here you have 7 minutes of it. Synching in with the rhythm can be a problem too sometimes with this song.

I wasn't aware of that site Matt. Thanks.
It looks like it's going to be $1/song cheaper from Australia if I have to go 10 minimum and they all have to be SC. So that's probably what I'm going to do this time.

That's the explanation for a lot of these -- if the song is easy to sing and somewhat well known, it is going to be done a lot.
Two things on this subject...
My latest song to hate is "Total Eclipse of the Heart". Great song, but way too long and done by too many bad singers. This one gets done every night around here.
And where the heck has "Sweet Caroline" gone? I couldn't believe I would say this, but I don't think I have heard it for a month. And no one has mentioned it on any of the recent threads as being one of the all-time karaoke songs (which it still is, nonetheless).

Wonderful Tonight, not so much. Wanted is a staple! Maybe not nightly, but at least every other day average.

Seattle, American Pie is a very hard song to sing not just because it is 7 minutes of melodic singing, but also because of the different ranges you have to hit. The timing also is tough on the spoken parts as you said. Mostly though it is very hard to sing because of the way the verses were meant to be sung, they run on and into to each other and into the chorus barely giving you time to catch your breath. Don actually wrote and sang it this way on purpose. He trained himself to be able to sing parts of the verses in a single breath by holding his breath and building up his lung power.
If done well I actually don't mind hearing it, problem is I don't think I have hardly ever heard anyone do it well. It is actually one of my favorite songs of all time. I haven't sang it in a few years but I would like to think that I do a decent rendition of it. I know one thing, it can leave you breathless trying to sing it!
Now don't get me started on the Madonna version, what a clunker IMO. Rudy.

My Bro does Dragula and it usually goes over good, Thunder Kiss 65 also is another Zombie song that almost always gets our crowd going.
I'll say one thing, I think I would rather hear Love Shack 3 times a night before hearing Picture ever again, not a Kid Rock fan at all. Rudy.
