the bands that were so hot in the 70s did not sound as good in the 80s

Never really thought about it - but you know, that's a good point.

Foghat went a completely different route than their Slow Hand & I Just Wanna Make Love To You Days with their Zig Zag Walk album. Don't get me wrong, I actually really liked this album, but it WAS NOT the Foghat from the 70's.
'Yes' was another that kind of strayed from their rock n roll roots. Styx went completely weird with their Mr. Roboto motiff.
Aerosmith in the EARLY 80's but that was more drug related & half the band not being there, they recovered fully with the Permanent Vacation LP/CD.
Heart had alot of great hits in the 80's but even THEY admit their core, heart & sole was the 70's stuff that they still do to this day.

These are just a few that I can thin of right off hand.

You know its really unfortunate.

In the 5 years that Ive been here on KS this is the FIRST TIME Ive been involved in a debate/argument/dicusssion that degenerated into a personal beef with someone here.

I have not once been cussed at, called a foul name, personally dissed or belittled publically on the forums until tonight.

This is the very first instance.

Most here has been polite, civil, respectful, helpful and sociable.

As I have tried to be with MOST people here.

Will I debate strongly and hammer at someone that has an attitude or attacks something I hold dear. Absolutely. I REFUSE to apologize for that. I WILL hit them as hard as I can. And I expect the same in return if someone doenst like a postion I take or I come on with a attitude or I say something that really rubs someone wrong. And there are others here who are far more BRUTAL than I am.

But tonight I was personally attacked and attempted to be dissed and belittled and given a foul gesture on a public forum.

Its particularly distressing that it came from someone who's highly respected here and someone whom Ive very much enjoyed reading their posts.

I find it to be saddening and disapointing.

Oh well I guess thats going to happen sometime or other.

Kurt don't take it personally.......must be something in the air

80's actually had a ton of really good musicians, especially gutarists & alot of good rock - fun party rock, not like this death oriented, depressing, screaming rock of today. It was also a time of major experimentation with the synth & sequenced sounds that were becoming more readily available. I didn't really appreciate it then but do now. However our 80's rebirth around here has come & gone, like said we are back into the 90's again.

I totally agree with Lonnie on all of this. The fad of 80s music has passed, and now it's just the music of another time period with it's good and bad.

If there is one decade sung more than any other in my home room it's the 90s. I wouldn't say that it's "hot" or anything. That's just the decade when most of the singers were in high school.

Morgan did bring up an intersting observation about the 60.s 70's artistis moving into the 80's and haveing a corresoponding drop off in quality/success---may have had something to do with personnel changes---perhaps like Bernie Taupin leaving Elton John--then his career kinda went into the doldrums as a result. Or like the Eagles splitting up and all the players trying solo.

Also could just be a kinda typical mid-career effect for those bands. They had thier big runs earlier, then kinda were tailing off as the 80s came around.

And of course musical styles and tastes changed and the younger musicians created a new genre which the older bands were not part of. Much as the older bands did in thier generation and rap/hip-hop did when it first took off.

Excellent observation Morgan!!

My point is - 80's retro stuff became popular in about 97 over here. By about 2004 it had been milked to death so much it was dead. Now we've moved on to 90's nostalgia.

And your point that a lot of places play it - negates your point that it's going to be a big deal soon!?

Well, the Western World is about two steps behind most European trends, you know...:)

The eighties craze hit us a while ago. It has pretty much faded out now. I was just glad the "Big Hair" didn't come back with it !

I would strongly disagree with that, at least in my area. I do a lot of proms and high school dances and kids are asking for Def Leppard, Poison, and Bon Jovi quite a bit. They haven't seen fit to delve into the fringe hair band players like Britny Fox, Bulletboys or Enuff Z'Nuff, but they are asking for it in increasing numbers. Not to mention the amount of it that gets performed at my karaoke shows...

Not to through off the banter - but can we "cool the jets"

There is no need to get upset regarding someones particular musical choice and especially no need to insult someone over them either.

Now having said that - I really love the Eighties stuff! But I also love the 70's and Country and Punk and 60s metal and 50s rock-n-roll... I could go on and on - I just love music...

Not a big fan of gansta rap or Opera - but are those really music?! Ha ha just kidding! :rotflmao:

I love 80's music and I do quite a bit of it, but I will be the first to admit that it has died down a bit in our area. That being said, I feel that there were a many one hit wonders in the 80's which probably had something to do with the advent of MTV and maybe that reflects on how people feel about the music.

Hey Morgan, maybe I could come by and sing you some Journey and change your mind just a bit! Just kidding Sweetie! You are entitled to your opinion just like anyone else. I go through phases, 80's one month, progressive rock the next, classic soul, usually depends on my mood. Rudy.

I remember dancing at the clubs to all of these!
Yeah I was eighties freak - I actually wore my hair like Peter Burns and dressed like Adam Ant (yes with the makeup!)
Now I am more and more like the guys from Spandau Ballet!

I was literally like Kevin Bacon in "Footloose" in the eighties... graduated H.S. in 82, went in the service, and on my time off until 1987, loved the fashion of the eighties.

"What? I LIKE the tie!"
"When you go off to college, THEN you can dress like David Bowie!"
