Ahaaaaa, but a blanket statement like this isn't necessarily true for all people.
As a singer in bands for years I've always had problems with fog. While it doesn't give me an "I can't breathe" sensation it DOES irritate my throat and gives me an extremely irritating tickle that won't clear until the fog does (fans help). That is definitely a hindrance when performing.
I can't afford a haze machine (very costly) but I do have a low-lying fogger. I just use for dj gigs though, not karaoke.
