The discussion of GeminiMALE40's rules has been a topic/thread in the past.
They are stupid rules and he knows that...he just likes to incite activity on the forum.
It is the old case of "Even bad publicity is publicity"
Personnally I think he "gets off on it"...if you know what I mean?

Boy, I wonder what you would say about my town of 3,000. We don't have that many people in the surrounding three county area.

That is like a thimble drop to many hard core karaoke cities. According to his own words, he is self appointted 'THE BEST" in that small town that his competitors are even worse.
Now if he tried those antics in a real city with hard core karaoke, he'd be just another fly in the ointment. Again, he's been spouting off with these ridiculous rules of his for the past few years...and now looking at his site he's adding all the gimmicks (lights, "SNOW" machine  , I remember him talking up his new "BUBBLE" machine :rotflmao: , now a kiosk...to try to improve the show, gimmicks are just that, bandaids for something else that isn't working, take a look at the "rules" first, but whatever. Talked about putting his book up on his website for people to see, but probably realized it wasn't such a good idea as (from what I have heard from a couple that HAVE been there, is it's not THAT impressive as he brags). May as well let it go. What works for 1 (and pretty much only one) don't work for the other 99%.
Wondering how much a good company with a kj's with really good customer service, sound, selection would pretty much take over a place like that...one can only wonder.

Well, bud, I have seen plenty of "big city karaoke", having been to venues in 8 or 9 major cities. Other than the obvious superior attitude of some hosts, it isn't that much different.

Tacoma is around 200,000 I believe. I thought it was a small city  j/k. Although alot smaller than say New York or LA.
TTT says he's in Seattle, approx 570,000 population.

This could actually be a very interesting thread!

sweety, your broken english and hitleresque rules and regulations maybe ok on a cabana boy, but the signs are there (rebranding, smoke machines et al) that they are not for your website and ultimately for your business

TTowntenor GOT IT RIGHT. All those gimmicks GM is trying, bubble machine? Snow machine? Lights? -god forbid...is an attempt TO DRAW 5 year olds to his show so he can treat them as such!

After leaving THAT kind of show i'd be screaming "TOTO THANK GOD WE'RE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE!!!!" -come to think of it...dogs probably aren't allowed lol lol lol

This all reminds me of that old thread on whether or not to allow singers to bring their own discs. Did that ever get resolved?....

I have a big ego and I'm selfish because if I go out to do karaoke, I expect to be able to do more than one song if I'm at the same place all evening? That is hilarious. Yet not surprising at all, it completely matches the customer unfriendly tone of your rules list.

Obviously when you were ditching your English classes, you weren't spending the time in business classes either. You have a lot to learn about the service industry.

A better way to get new singers in AND allow for previous singers to sing in a timely fashion would be to work the new singers in betwen the old. One new... one old... one new... one old... and so on.
It's not a major deal to do, and once people know what's happening, they are great with it.
I'm one of those that disagree with inserting singers.

I treat my rotation like a virtual line that's waiting. In MY OWN Opinion, I feel that inserting singers is paramount to skipping in line. Those that have been waiting patiently, even though they already rode the amusement ride once before, don't want to see others just cutting in "cause you already did it once today"...

Now, it's NOT a make or break thing for me. I went to Lonnie's show, and he utilizes the insert method.

But to penalize someone for changing their song idea??? Wow!

I run my rotation the same as you do, Knightshow.
New singers go at the end.
I was, however, trying to suggest a "happy medium" and perhaps ease him into a different way. The way he puts it, you won't sing another song. Period.
If my rotation was getting close to a 2 hour wait, I would consider the new/old/new/old rotation. Haven't got there yet, but have come awfully close!
But, having said that, I would insert new singers every 3 or 4, just to try and get to the old singers who have been waiting.
What I usually do, if I'm getting near the end of the rotation, and it's getting to be a fairly long wait for the first singers, is I will wait until the next rotation has started and THEN enter the new singers. That way, they have to wait the same as everyone else and they're not "jumping the queue", so to speak.

There sure seems to be an awful lot of negativity in this thread and no one seems to mind. If I say anything negative about anyone or anything; people jump all over me. Go figure! Won't all of this negativity cause Gemini man to leave the site??? Shouldn't everyone be telling him that his web site looks great????

If I had been the first respondent in this thread with all of that negativity; I get the feeling that the thread would have taken a completely different direction. I guess since everyone else has already blasted the Gemini man for his lack of education, I'll leave him alone. No need to beat a dead ignorant horse.

It's all in how it's presented.

the thread is about Gemini asking our opinions about his web site design, not his rules. We've been over that. It is also not abut you, Brucefan. Get over yourself.

It seems like he (Gemini) takes pleasure in opening himself up for this type of negativity (if that is what you call it). Problem is he does not learn much when he does opens himself up for comments about his site.

I'm thinking he is a "button pusher" and he does this on purpose to get attention. So I would not feel too sorry for him if I were you.

I suspect this pattern will never change.

I finally took a peak today at this thing. Certainly speaks to the case of having a professional proofreader ... and if the proofing was left to the web site creator, I'd fire them. And as to the actual content of the site, the whole 'rule' thing is so very insulting to the average adult. I have never had a rule sheet, maybe twice a year have to reprimand someone for something like swinging the mic. First thing that comes out of their mouth is an apology....and if they come in the next week, they apologize AGAIN. I think you teach people how to treat you. This type of nazi behavior doesn't work in our area. Maybe that comes from being in a more urban area, though we are NOT urban really. Maybe just more sophisticated clients?

After I read it, I began to wonder if this was just a joke ...

Quote:
Actually, MAtt, it is NOT correct, grammatically.
What it should be is:
"Our show is run by"
and
"Gemini Karaoke's shows are not run by the venue".
The word "ran", in your usage, is past tense, while the rest of the sentence is written in present tense. They just don't "jive" together.
Grammatically speaking, you cannot mix tenses within the same sentence.
The word "run" is present tense and therefore "jives" with the present tense of the rest of the sentence.
Hope that makes sense.

Actually, Diafel, your analysis makes perfect sense

Meanwhile, Murrlyn offered this right afterwards:
Quote:
But if I saw him run the show, wouldn't I be contradicting this statement?
And if he ran the show well, it would be a well run show!
Or, if he runs the show well, it will be a well run show!

Well, no, Murlyn. "Saw" and "run" are both past tense.
And the phrase "well run", is an adjective, which has no tense.
Meanwhile, both "ran" and "run" are verbs, which do reflect tense.

Well is an adverb describing the verb "run"..... unless you're talking about a run in a stocking.

No... that is not exactly correct, Bruce

See "Essentials of English Grammar, Second Edition, by L Sue Baugh, wherein you'll find the following on page 45!

Compound Adjectives

When compound adjectives are used before the noun, they are hyphenated. When they follow the noun, no hyphen is used. If one of the modifiers is an adverb ending in –ly, do not use the hyphen in the compound adjective.

- a decision-making process
- a well-run program
- a city-owned business
- publicly owned parks
- a program that is well run

Hope this helps clarify further what Diafel originally posted as well as the distinction I made between verbs and adjectives!
