The Shure website says that the PG4 receiver requires 12-18Vdc @ 160mA, so any old 12V power supply will work just fine so long as the plug fits. Get a universal power supply locally for a few bucks if you need to.

You might wanna check beforehand that a USA model is legal in Australia - frequency regulations vary from country to country.

I knew I was forgetting something - the prices I put up are AU$. Thanks for letting me know.

Quacka I sent you a private message with the guys details etc. I don't know if I apply for the additional discount because I am already a customer. Give it a shot if the prices look alright.

Cheers

I would buy it from the US if the powerpack supports 220V :) Especially now the USD-AUD is nearly one to one, I can save a fair bit.

Just about any DC transformer sold in the US these days supports both 220 and 110V. I just check the power supplies on my PG288's and they are both rated for 110-220V.

I might buy the PGX24/SM58 combo from ebay. I don't think their is no regulation rule for this in AU as yet so I don't think it would be a problem.

The price for PG58 dual here in AU is basically the same as buying two SM58/PGX24 from the US. Only thing is warranty, tough choice :?

Thank you for the info vtrod. The price you gave is considerably cheaper then what they advertised on their website for the 512SC. Just hopefully they didn't quote you the 212 or the 312. Would definitely buy it off them if it is that price.

If you can get 2 of the SM58 systems for about the same price, this is the route you should go IMO. Alot less handling noise than the PG58 mics & the advantage of having an output for each mic to go to the mixer, the PG288 only has one output so any mic adjustment made will affect both mics (can be an issue with 2 different type singers) - unless this is an issuse to start with where you only have one input open.

If I had the money to spare - I would go SM58 as opposed to PG58. But it is a fair amount of money. I have never had to make a warranty claim on any of my Shure equipment.

There is a night and day difference between the two.

If you are too close to your speakers, the PG58 very easily picks up any ambient noise and muddies up your sound in an instant. Considering you might be using it in a small room, this might prove an issue.

I used to think the PG58 was decent, until I got used to my SM and Beta 58's. Now I cannot stand my PG. :)

That pricing I sent you is definitely the EMX 512 SC.

Thank you for everyone recommendations.

I had time to visit a music store today and managed to pick up:

1 X Yamaha EMX 512SC
2 X Yamaha Club V Series - C115V
1 X sm58 mic
and all the necessary cables for them.

I didn't buy the PG24x/SM58M wireless as the guy there say I can get the BETA58 wireless for only a little more and they are a newer model and better. Before I buy it, I thought I better check out if it is REALLY better on here. What do everyone thinks of the BETA58/PG24x combo compare to the SM58?

beta 58 definately. supercardioid mics can handle more volume before feeding back. it also sounds more clear to me than the sm, then again, i am also a sennheiser fan. go back to the store and try them. get what sounds best to your ears. either one you get, they are quality. i used to tell people all the time at GC that unless "other people" are buying it.....take their opinions but trust yourself.

Beta58 it is then.

Now whether to get the PGX24 or the SLX2 receiver.

I saw on one of the trading website someone in sydney was selling the SLX2/Beta58A combo for $699AUD. Awaiting for their return email whether they have any left.

Cheers

slx is the next step up. i can only assume (not knowing the aussie conversion rate) that that is a great price. etter companding circuits and more frequencies are nice. if not for the great price, my advice would be not spend the extra money for home. i doubt you would gain anything in a home environment worth the increase. mobile KJ application however........

On 16th October 2010 the Australian dollar hit parity with the US dollar for the first time since 1982.

So conversion is 1:1 - but we still pay through every orifice for pro equipment. :S

Just thought I would let everyone know WOOWOOOOOO!!

I managed to pick a beta58/slx2 off ebay for $500AUD thats 6 months old which has only been used a few times.

After that the guy from the website emailed me (bit too late). So I am only buying one set off him instead of two for $699AUD with full warranty :)

Thats fairly cheap as the best I could find in the shop is $699 for the Beta58/PGX2 combo. A free upgrade imo :D

I guess I learnt my lesson from buying from a forum. The brand new SLX24/Beta58 seem to have a different model with a chinese power adapter. It seems to work ok except the writing on the mic faded after one night of use.

One thing I oticed about both of the SLX24/Beta58. There seem to be a lot of handling noises. Tapping the side and bottom of the mic lightly with my finger produces a tapping sound. My friend who has an old dual set of Shure Wireless said his ones doesn't do this. Anyone have any idea why this is the case?

SOunds like it was a conterfeit. The Beta should have little to no handling noise and the writing would never wear off the first day.

Hopefully you didn't get counterfeit mics. I've heard of that issue since Shure mics are so well-known.

unfortunately, sounds like Lon is right. i saw a bunch of them coming through GC over the years and if the writing came off in one night, sure sign of a fake. if you unscrew the battery cover on the transmitter, on the back by the label, there should be pattent numbers molded into the plastic just below the threads. also the button on the bottom should be red and somewhat transparent, not black. remove the grill and the wires on the capsule should be yellow and gree and on the same side of the capsule. black and red wires are a fake.

Yeah :(

Oh well I guess I have learnt my lesson about cash on delivery now. The owner for the 1st set haven't replied as yet and Australia Post don't offer any money protection like paypal does. They said that they are just reponsible for the shipping ofthe goods only.

At least for the second set which I have bought used on ebay, I can contact the seller. He is willing to give me my money back or keep the unit at half price. From the looks of things, he has used the set for 6 month and no realised it is fake. I think at this stage I might just return it and get a set of PGX2/Beta58 from a reputable store. This set looks very real, just that it doesn't have the patent number and the sync button is black.

The wiring under the grill in both set are green and yellow.
