If Michigan was so great, we would have kept it. But seeing Detroit, we were right in letting you have it.

Come on now really! I personally don't care what songs people sing. But even you should know that certain songs are not appropirate in some venues.

You are right. But if given the same set of circumstances between 2 kj's (taking price, personality, system, selection all being pretty much equal), I am willing to bet the one that works WITH a club will be employed more over the kj that tells the club to FO they will run the show how they want with no regard to what the owner (remeber the one that hires and pays) wants in THEIR club. The ultimate goal of a business.

Your right lon..its their business..but its also MY time, MY equiment,My cds or in this case now MY downloads..MY publicity ( Posters, ads ect )..I rest my case..again we agree to disagree

Hmmmmm. Lonnie has been employed by the same place for quite some time doing roughly 365 gigs per year. My guess would be that Mister XXX Free Speech does less than 100 shows per year....and I wouldn't support even one of them because of his attitude. He doesn't care about anyone else's feelings but his own. Who needs customer service in today's financial world? Not Gemini. It's his way or he's taking his balls and going home.

As the original poster, I don't think the owner is making an unreasonable request. He NEVER said that the SONGS can't be sung. He said he doesn't want the explicit lyrics sung. Instead of singing the word "fu#*" , maybe substitute the word "freak" or something similar.
I have decided to remove these songs from my books, thereby making this a non issue as well as eliminating the temptation for people trying to "test the waters".

Obviously every bar\night club sets it's own standards. Those standards define what patrons they wish to attract. I've only worked for one bar so I'm not as versed at how the bar\KJ relationship is other than mine. But in my case, I feel it's my duty to represent the standards of the bar. After all, I am the presence patrons see the most. I certainly do not police the entire bar but I do try to work within the standards of the bar with regard to what happens on stage and on the dance floor.

Sorry about that. I guess my post was a little vague. I made it with the points of whether I or the bar dictates language on stage, which is where I assume this topic has broadened to.

In the front of my books I have a list of rules. (yes I still have books, AND rules). One of the rules states that "Songs with explicit lyrics are VENUE SPECIFIC", before submitting any of these songs, please ask karaoke host if they are allowed at THIS venue. Now, having said that, whether the patron READS, or CARES, is a different story. No matter what you do, if they want to scream obscenities over the mic they're going to do it. At my shows, they'll do it ONCE..... Then the mic goes OFF.

Srnitynow This is the truth even with songs that don't have bad language to begin with. I had a very good singer who is also a friend of mine that if people weren't paying attention during his rendition of "Piano Man" he would change to a vulger word similar with pianist. Had many others do something similar with various songs but he would sing that song almost every night out and would "have" to do this version 1 out of 5 I guess. It was actually one of the more ingenious lyric changes, if you think about it.. The bar is ok with it so.. As I said before though, I personally dropped\won't get songs that are nothing more than curse words.

Srnitynow Bingo! My thoughts exactly. MrBoo wrote: As I said before though, I personally dropped\won't get songs that are nothing more than curse words. So no one will be rappin' "I'm On A Boat" at your place anytime soon...... or Lonman's place either. Which is actually nice IMHO. If you read the lyrics carefully, they're stoopid (with 2 "o's"). I'll razz people when they do it: "I'm on a boat I'm on a boat I used to be in prison, but now I'm on a boat!" Useless song with no redeeming qualities as far as I'm concerned.

c. staley wrote: So no one will be rappin' "I'm On A Boat" at your place anytime soon...... Well, it's sorta like this. I don't listen to rap and I don't keep up with it. I have no idea what that boat song deal is you posted.. I have a few rap songs but not many. If they asked for this one, I might would buy it but if I got it and it was loaded with potty mouth junk I'd somehow lose it without ever being able to find it again. I have a saying... Those that can't do, teach. And those that can't sing, rap. As non-artistic as rap is (IMO of course), I am continually SHOCKED at how horrible it is when people try to do it in karaoke. 9 out of 10 rap karaoke sucks 10 times worse than the worse non rap karaoke song, 5 times worse than hearing the original and they typically can't say a third of the words. In those times I wish to talk fast, I simply repeat the Big Mac catch phrase until the urge is gone. One or two times is usually enough.
