It was a sort of rhetorical question, Ranger. Sometimes I know where they went--a big concert in town, etc. I think it isn't a bad thing to be aware of what the competition might be. But when they are nowhere you wonder where they went. Simple as that.
Thanks for letting me know I need customers in order to keep my gig. I hadn't thought of that.

The central server lawsuit was based on multiple venues. The concept of serving to multiple rooms hasn't been tested and Harrington has said they could possibly consider it legal as the possibility of using the same library for multiple rooms at one venue could possibly be done. I lean more to needing a library for every room but the bottom line is, I don't think this particular situation has been tested.

If you are in a small market with limited options sometimes it is necessary to relocate for business purposes. You yourself know that you had to adjust what you were doing to be a success in your area. By checking the people who have been in the business the longest and have the choice gigs already sewed up, you can see how they are doing. If even they can't make it work, it might be time to scale back or stop operations until the economy improves. What other option would there be except moving to a larger market, if you want to continue in business? Have a blessed day.

I hope you are directing that advice at Lonman, as well Lone. He started the thread.
I had a very bad Tuesday after having a good one. The only reason they are trying the Tuesday is because Saturdays were going so well and they wanted to try something extra for the summer. I have doubts about that night myself but we shall see. I responded to the thread just as others were saying they have had slow nights. But I'm singled out to be advised to get out of the business?
It has been slow going getting started in this economy and small area but finally things are starting to kick in for me. I am supposed to be adding a third place when they get their permits in order and then I will get a chance at the established shows in the larger town and see what happens.
I realize there is no point in responding as you just like to hear yourself talk but thought I had better set the record straight for the rest of the forum.

Had a killer night last night. 32 singers and packed house - lots of new faces with very favorable responses as to coming back. Funny how one day nothing, and the next it's almost TOO busy for singers.

Yes it has been rather choppy lately here also, I have often said that if I could predict what kind of a night it will be accurately, I wouldn't have to host, I could instead just play the horses. I just feel good that I have decided to pull the pin and fully retire after Oct 31st. Nineteen years of this is quite enough, at least I will no longer be concerned about what kind of a night it is going to be. Have a blessed day.

Better Tuesday last night. Got paid extra to stay late. Just doesn't make sense sometimes.

Yeah this Mon I had 22 singers and a decent sized crowd. Last night I had 19 singers and another nice sized crowd. These are nights that have been dead for the last few weeks.

Had 25 in rotation all night on Monday and then less than 10 all night on Tuesday. It's the way it goes. On a side note, we had 26 teams play live trivia tonight.

It has been a really weird mix in my neck of the woods. One of the bars that ran karaoke for over 10+ years finally closed it's doors permanantly.
So now we are down to one karaoke show for the entire town of High River. And yet, for a while, it was still not as busy at the place I went to in Okotoks.
But since the host started a game he calls 'chase the ace' things have REALLY started to pick up.. Basically its a chance to wish a cash prize. Right now it is up to $340. Last night there was even a guy there that I haven't seen at karaoke in over 7 years. I honestly thought he was dead. I think it will die down a bit when someone wins the money. The part I hate is it will probably be some newcomer who shows up, sings only once and then disappears once they have won the money.

Chase the ace is pretty simple. You start with a regular deck of cards. And you start with a sum of money, with us it was $20. Every time a person sings they get a draw ticket . At the end of the night they draw a ticket. The host shuffles the deck twice, then the winner of the draw shuffles, cuts twice and picks a top card. If they draw the ace of spades they win the money. If they draw a different card, the person tears up that card and $20 is added to the jackpot.
Repeat until someone wins,
When the got up to close to $300 they switched from adding $20 to 10
