I've been inthe karaoke business for 11 years (would be 13 or 14, but I won't claim the last two years, as I've not done one IOTA of business, other than a free gig for a friend.). But I've been in the DJ side of things since 1984...

Most of the illegals have nothing to speak of as far as a decent system.  They want to do the entire business cheap as possible.  So when the system sounds crappy they can't keep their jobs.  So now to get jobs that will maybe last, they give a can't refuse price and it's not as much as i make.  They may not start out as undercutters but that's where they end up, right before they die out.  Soon it becomes not worth doing.    Without the big money we get, it's not all the fun and games they thought it was.

I have been to the mountain and i have seen the operatings of my competition.

If you would take a look around you will find them too.    Oh wait.  They only appear to me.   "I see illegal KJs.... trying to steal my jobs."   I'm a channeler.     I have to get into a trance.

And what about the person who was doing the gig before DBK? She was 100% legal, had a home CDG player, 1500 tracks and got paid full price!!

Poor girl got screwed...    By some cut throat KJ with better equipment and more songs and more experience and thats' the way it should be.  Can't play in the real world competition?????      STAY HOME.

no way did the other kj get screwed, unless she did it to herself.

SW, you keep thinking that we're out to fix all the bad kjs... many times, the only way to fix a bad kj is to beat them at their own game... not by underbidding, but by being a BETTER kj, with a better equipment, more experience, offering more services (mix music, videos, etc)...

quit trying to stir up the crap and use only PART of what people post on here about.

You know nothing about much of anything, but that has never kept you from pee....ng on yourself while you're busily concote scenarios to satisfy your lopsided view of the business, people, venue owners, KJ's, etc.

I know the circumstances under which the job became DBK's.  In fact, I was called about that job several weeks before DBK took it.

Most significantly, the "girl" was relieved of her responsibilities before I was even called.

But, regardless, I can't follow your statements, points, suggestions regarding this matter, even if you account of the circumstances is factual.  

Lastly, I've been to Dave's show; he's been to mine.  Who has been to yours?

You said she was getting the same money and she was a "LEGAL" KJ.  So WHY didn't anyone offer to help her become a better KJ?     You didn't hesitate to take her job.    But you hesitated to help her.    You just told us about all of the KJs that you help and are willing to help on a regular basis.  

Something smells funny about you "HELP LINE."   I hope no one steps in it...   But it came out of the dead horse they keep beating.


The circumstances are...she wasn't building a crowd for whatever reason and she was replaced.    Happens to my competition all the time.    They don't want to get better at it or they would.    You can't help them if the problem is "them."     She might have good equipment but she may be a jerk.    Can't fix that.  I know plenty of them.    They don't work much or long at any one job.    They are constantly switching jobs.    They talk a good story and price to get the job and then they can't produce and they get canned.   NEXT...


Now lets get the story straight.  Are we helping other KJs (our competition) get better or do they need to learn it on their own.  It can't be both ways.

DBK, Donna Marie (see "Peter" thread), myself, and one other KJ help one another, including "tips on getting better" and we help each other get work. Donna and her former partner helped me get into the business.  Clearly, my world is a paradigm you can't relate to.  But it does works for us!!!

And what is it you are saying about beating "dead horses"?

I hate to be trite, but you CLEARLY are a legend in your own mind.  No one else is the least be impressed.  And even I'm starting to wonder if you haven't worn out both your usefulness and welcome?

This all started because i said never trust another KJ.  So there are some you trust and there are some you don't?    Right?     Some you help and other you wouldn't help put out the fire.     How do you draw the line on which ones to help and which ones to turn your back on?

Friends hurray and others up yours.    Why?   Are they after your jobs and you don't want that to happen?     That's what i have been saying from the beginning.  I'm not helping anyone to be able to take my jobs and you aren't either.    Except your friends.     I have some friends too and the rest can pound salt.

So ..... the majority of your competition can count on not being helped by you.    That's all you had to say in the first place.    Trying to get us to believe that you are the biggest humanitarian in the KJ world was pretty see-through by me, from the beginning.

Dog eat dog and never trust another KJ that you aren't "good" friends with.  :wave:  :O  :hug:

Honestly I would help anyone that were to ask for my help or advice. I dont see anyone as a threat, I have had my gigs long enough to know that I wont be compromised. No matter how cheaply or cut throat others can be.
I just left gigs that I felt would do that or if I felt that they would play KJ foosball. There is no going back and forth and switching week to week. Its obvious that if a bar contacts us for rates, the first things I ask them is 1. Do they currently have karaoke 2. What do they expect to pay 3. How many different hosts have they hired 4. If they are willing to sign an agreement

If they point out within any of those answers that they obviously go through hosts, then I dont take the job, because in my opinion its obviously the bar that has problems and its not the karaoke, and they are looking for a miracle to save the bar.
The obvious blame being put on poor entertainment, when maybe they should look at staff, or other things that contribute.

The other hosts can take those jobs, I dont need them.

But as far as being helpful and constructive to others I would, because I actually enjoy going to other shows, I cant stand going to shows that the KJ is not experienced, cant run equipment, has a bad attitude, and sometimes offering up some suggestions may make it a better show.
Thats what the hosts who took me under their wings did. I would only return the same to anyone who may need it.

And yes, get screwed, well thats what protecting yourself is all about now isnt it?
Can't say the thought of anyone tring to take over has not entered my mind, its just simple they cant, I have contracts with the bars I work in, so I dont worry.

I have no reason to hate other hosts, I can either learn or teach so no matter its a good thing.

I believe I stated that if she would hve ASKED me for HELP, I would have been happy to oblige. You can't help someone not looking for help, otherwise it is ARROGANCE- oh wait that is your favorite stance!

Unsolicited help/advice is taken worse sometimes than an insult. I had to learn that the hard way after going to another show as a patron and making a 'suggestion'. It was met with scorn and anger. The KJ not only resented it, but skipped me to the point where I left the show- the result he was hoping for.

So I guess the bottom line is I am willing to help those that are looking for it.
