My take on SGB is yes they are not the best company and some of their tracks have defects but that is true of all brands.

One systemic problem with SGB though is that they are on average about 10 decibels louder (maximum) than other tracks of the same songs by other makers.

By turning down the volume on average on SGB it is a much more comparable manu to all of the others. Some good, some bad.

THe first bar that I regularly went to karaoke ran a great show with largely SGB, sure there were many other reasons it was a good show but they managed to do it with less than the "best" songs. Until I learned about other manus, I did not realize that there were often better versions, but at the same time a show that was almost exclusively run on SGB tended to have the volume adjusted to the right level and sounded "ok" more than would be the case if it was not adjusted.

So yes without adjustment in volume many of the SGB songs sound bad by being too loud, but with adjustment they are not too bad and many are better than higher reputation manus. For the price they really can not be beat. While I will use sound choice over SGB if possible when someone requests a song I am not seriously thinking about wholesale replacement of SGB tracks with another manu. On the other hand I am serously considering replacing the 100 or so tracks that I have from Music Maestro.

While I have run into SGB tracks, on occasion, that have required an immediate volume adjustment, after reviewing some of my collection the other day the problem isn't as widespread as the opinions on this forum had led me to believe. And that happened to be another reason that I had started to avoid SGB - I was afraid of being interrupted during all of my other tasks as a kj by having to stop and adjust the volume for every SGB track. Well, that is not necessary.

Also, I had my business partner sing some of the songs just this evening that I had reviewed for a previous post of mine on this thread. His opinion parallels mine about the tracks I reviewed. We concur that you can't get any better for the Platters, Jackie Wilson, Connie Francis and Ricky Martin.

Neither of us have found any reason to avoid SGB products. And no one from this forum, in regard to the challenge I made in an earlier post, has come back with a substantially better version of the specific SGB tracks I had reviewed!

I would have to say I have run into more MM tracks I'd like to avoid than SGB! But there are a slew of MM that are one of a kind and terrific!

I also believe the music of SGB is pretty darned good. The lyrics are terrible, though.

I defended them early on, but I have to agree. They have a few good tracks, but on balance they have more putrid tracks than any other manufacturer besides Chart Topper.
