Well since it's a moot point question that could never have a possibility for coming true, I would want to see the original - but guess what, he's dead, I would be just as happy today to see a good impersonator. Danny Vernon is a very good Elvis show. It's not necessarily about seeing the real thing, but about keeping the spirit alive & giving the next best thing to a live performance by the original.
Karaoke - I don't go for a host, hopefully the host knows what they are doing when I get there, but that's about the extent of it.
The host is not the show to me, I could care less who is running it as long as they CAN run it.

No, this was your question: How many people was ELVIS? They only buried one. Would you pay to see his stand in? Is that the same as seeing him?
You are not a very good spinmiester! Of course it is hard to do when there is a record of the original.

If the host was running an unfair rotation but had a real good system would you go or stay away?
If the host sang every 5th song would you go or stay away?
If the host had a bad system would you go or stay away?
If the host treated you bad and made comments about your singing talent would you stay or go?
If the host made everyone else sound bad and herself sound good would you go or stay away?
IMO the host is the most intergal part of the entire show. He or she can make or break the show. Without a good host the show is crap. Or can make your experience crap.
If the host sucks i'd would definately stay far away. I wouldn't support the bar or the KJ. I would want to be where i counted and was treated like everyone else is suppose to be treated.
How do you define a good show?

If the host sang every 5th song would you go or stay away? Depends on HOW bad the rotation was. I couldn't say until I saw the show. I may stay, I may leave. Would I return, probably not. But really has nothing to do with pricing. Quote: If the host had a bad system would you go or stay away? Again, depends on the night. Couldn't say until I experienced the night in question, but still has nothing to do with pricing. Quote: If the host treated you bad and made comments about your singing talent would you stay or go? I would leave ANY show that did that. Where does pricing come into play? Quote: If the host made everyone else sound bad and herself sound good would you go or stay away? Never know, but still pricing doesn't come into play here. Quote: IMO the host is the most intergal part of the entire show. He or she can make or break the show. Without a good host the show is crap. Or can make your experience crap. Agree & disagree, i've seen PLENTY of shows in which i'd consider a bad host that are always packed and wondered to myself - WHY?, so to some singers it doesn't really matter who the host is or how good they think they are. Quote: If the host sucks i'd would definately stay far away. I wouldn't support the bar or the KJ. I would want to be where i counted and was treated like everyone else is suppose to be treated. Again, PLENTY of singers will support these shows, doesn't matter how good or bad the hosts are, they don't come in for the host, they come in to party & get drunk. Quote: How do you define a good show?
A good show to me is a good crowd, supportive, fair rotation, good mix & a host that is NOT trying to be the entertainer & get the singers up in a timely manner with little to no down time in between singers - the show is the singers NOT the host. I do not care who is hosting - if they can meet that criteria, THAT to me is a good show.

You said the host is not the show, but the host is the only one in control of everything mentioned. There is nobody else to blame good or bad it's on the KJ and only the KJ.
I know many KJs that do all of the things mentioned and everyone that complains about them won't go back to be mistreated.
You could also blame the bar owner for keeping a KJ that runs a show like that.

WOW this thread is all over the place
1st of all ....A Karaoke Show and Host can NOT be compared to a Bon Jovi Concert
That just does not make sense. SECONDLY....almost anyone with a little knowledge of audio equipment CAN BE a KJ. ( but a little knowledge is dangerous).
Note: I did not say a GOOD KJ
It's a stretch for a KJ to believe they are the ENTIRE SHOW and most singers do not go for the KJ alone. ( AS I SAID THE KJ IS JUST ONE IN THE EQUATION)
But I will state: MANY SINGERS WILL EITHER LEAVE A SHOW OR NOT GO TO A SHOW BECAUSE OF THE KJ even if all other factors are OK.
The KJ is a major factor but not the only factor
And back no topic about pricing. CHARGE AS MUCH AS THE MARKET WILL ACCEPT or if you're in it for the fun and charity..charge whatever you want

For over 4 years I have been attacked, belittled, threatened and looked upon disdain because I have the audacity to suggest there are other ways to do shows. THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY!!!! I have different price structuring for events ranging from birthday parties with 50 guests or less to weddings with over 150 guests. Now I am being told there is only one price for bars. My original purpose was to get an idea what folks here are getting for their type of venue or size of venue as there are many different types and sizes represented here.
Never mind I will again chart new courses, adapt and try to stay ahead of the competition and yall can continue to do things the way we were doing them 5 or 6 years ago. THNX

Yep, but I don't GO to a show for a specific host. If Angel was hosting and fit the bill as a good host in my criteria or Harry was at the same bar the next night & still fit the bill - I could CARE LESS if it was Angel or Harry as long as the criteria was fit for a good show. If Angel & Harry were terrible hosts, then I may stay the night & not return or I would just up & leave depending on my mood. Quote: I know many KJs that do all of the things mentioned and everyone that complains about them won't go back to be mistreated.
Yep I do too. So?
