No, it wasn't:

I kinda thought Chip was explaining that to me... especially since I asked what the difference was.

@ Chip: Thanks for the offer, but as Mr. Harrington already noted (from my previous post), I do know how to convert both an MP3+G file and an MP4+G file to a BIN File and then to a disc to play on any CDG player.

Power CD+G Burner will do it for you. Just add your files and it will make the disc for you. Does a pretty good job. Just throwing it out for anyone else looking for a way to do it.

You're welcome anytime Cueball.

BTW, It is possible to convert CDG (or even MP3+G)to H.264 or even Blu-Ray as well. I have the tools for that too, -- piece of cake.

I use the GoldenHawk software for burning my discs on a PLEXTOR unit, and I use MP3/4G + TOOLZ for my conversions.

Mr Harrington:

Any word on when a list will be going up as promised? I know its a lot of data to go through, but I have a feeling you'll get even more reservations than you expected after the list goes up.

Ihanks

It's been a very long time since I've logged on, and seeing this makes me very happy. I would love to add new Sound Choice to my library, and support this effort.

Might just be a rumor but . . . The first two new songs slated for release are "You Don't Own Me" and "Now and Forever" which pretty much describes their new pricing model for KJ's.

You don't own the songs you buy and you have to pay now and forever if you want to continue to play them.

SC already put out "you don't own me" on 8415, along with Sunfly, Monster Hits, Legends, DK, SBI, and Karaoke Version.
Now and forever is on 8111, and Sunfly, Sing To The World, Pocket Songs, Nu Tech, Music Maestro, Legends, All Hits, Priddis, SBI, Karaoke Version.

i hope those rumors are wrong, this would be a horrible way to start the new series by reissuing songs everyone has done.

My apologies if this was already suggested or asked, but it was difficult sifting through all the name-calling and legal issue fighting posts. So...

What you said about spending $30 up front and being able to pick some of the songs from one disc and some from another: That sounds not far off from what I like about karaokedownloads.ca. I can buy a stack of credits, and each credit is good for one song. When a customer asks for something I don't have, I can look it up and download it on the spot for them using my credits. If you do it in this manner, I'd use SC every time over any other manufacturer.

For a couple of years I was subscribed to Pop Hits Monthly and would get mp3 discs in the mail every month. I'll never do that again because most of those songs just take up space on my hard drive and are never requested. If I have to accept a handful of songs from SC that are not my customers' personal picks, I won't be buying SC music. :-(

I love the instrumental quality of the SC tracks, so please consider the credit-purchasing model.

as it is stated, a "disc" will be made and the $30 goes for that disc. there has not been an answer one way or the other about being able to not use all of the money on that disc, but the impression i get, you would use most of it and if there are one or two you don;t want you could skip them.
with karaokedownloads.ca you can see the songs they have and buy credits based on that and only buy what you want when you want, this is a different program. no list of songs, not buy what you want when you want.

As promised, the following is an official announcement from Phoenix Entertainment Partners, LLC about the status of the Sound Choice® ADVANCE program.

We received approximately 105 reservations during the initial sign-up period. Our minimum requirement for going forward with the production is 320 reservations, and we would prefer to have it at 480 or higher.

Obviously, that number is disappointing in some respects, but it's encouraging in others. We've gotten some great feedback from many of you about the program, so, going forward, we're making some changes.

First, the deadline has been extended to October 30. This extension was explained paragraph 7 of the Reservation Agreement.

Second, rather than forcing you to take all of the tracks offered in connection with the first Digital Album, you'll receive credits that you can apply toward the songs you want, and defer the rest to later releases. You can use all, some, or none of your credits on the first group of releases--however you choose.

Third, we will be publishing a list of songs under consideration later this week. We wanted to do this sooner, but we were not far enough along in the licensing process to enable that to happen. We're getting close to final, and we're to the point where we can do it this week. We appreciate all of the suggestions we've been given for new material--and keep them coming. We're trying to fit all of it into new licensing.

To everyone who's made reservations, thank you. For folks who are on the fence, I hope these changes will satisfy your concerns.

For the benefit of those who might "be on the fence" over this new program;

What happens in the case a subscriber chooses none of the songs on the first disc, keeps their credits and there is no second release?

Will they get the first release anyway or a refund?

I'll have to see come the 9th what your producing. I have to say, 105 is only 1/3 of your target number for the minimum amount of tracks.

Maybe you might need to take a loss on the 1st CD and just get it out. 320 copies is $10,000.... Doesn't give me much confidence when a company who has not made a product in 6 years cant lay $7,000 of its own money on the table to get it out on time.

Ok I was hoping for a slight respite from all the haters and nay-sayers but since Jim has posted the announcement here is my take.

If you are sitting on the fence, by all means wait until an actual list gets posted, but after that, it is actually in your best interest to buy a reservation

1, The more reservations PEP receives, the more your credits will be worth. Think about it if PEP achieves their goal of 480 reservations then you will be able to lease ANY 12 songs that PEP releases in the future.

2. If you can afford to reserve multiple copies, or are a muti-rigger anyway you can ENSuRE the release of a second album by making multiple reservations. I for one will be passing on this information to every single singer I come across and will be asking if they would be interested in chipping in $30us for the chance to have high quality music THAT THEY WANT produced. Hell I may even save up and try to buy a few extra reservations myself just to have some future credits to spend on songs.

3. If PEP can get this model off the ground then they have a REAL chance of proving to the music producers that there IS a valid customer base for Digital Karaoke and they might revoke the absolutely ridiculous 'no-fly' list that they are starting to enforce. Money talks, and if there is enough of it, they may change their minds on currently 'banned' artists

4. They are chipping in their own money. I've heard SEVERAL producers say on this forum that the average cost to produce a 15 song disc, including paying the musicians, licensing, distribution etc is approximately $30,000. So for 12 songs, it would obviously be less, but I don't think it would be that much less.

lets do the math 480 reservations at $30 per = $14,400 that's not even CLOSE to that original number. So obviously PEP is willing to 'put up or shut up' as the saying goes

We now return you to your regular schedule of Fud and hating..

cheers

-James

I'm not hating, I wish them well and I personally would like them to succeed. But there is a flaw... we aren't really talking $30 for the CD. Unless this is a FREE program I'm not aware of or separate from the HELP Licence, you need to for pay that too. Bring the total up a little bit... $129/month (6 month subcription per month price) + $30 for the CD.

If you stopped paying for the HELP Licence, you could possibly be sued for the use of it as well. (edited)

I posted Why I'm not going with them in a different thread... That's my logic on what this will actually entail. Sorry, its not hate... it's business.

See my response in your thread. Plus there IS one free option. If you have purchased sound choice discs and don't use them on a computer, then you qualify for Advance Music.

edit : I can see from the quote chain how you might think that I was calling you a hater. That comment was not directed at you personally, just in general.

you at least are making a THOUGHT out decision, based on what is best for your business.. and that's fine, I just don't think you have ALL the information yet or have considered what may be possible.

Let's don't pretend you're doing this for anyone's benefit.

We will be moving to a model of song-by-song releases. I have no interest in wasting all the time I've spent working on new licenses to release 8 songs and be done. There will be many, many more releases.

But I'll humor you. If there is no second release, refund. Mark it down.
