I purchased sonar 6 studio edition a couple months ago and am just now setting aside a day to try to have a go with it.

I have to say it is extremely confusing, but there are lots of Youtube  instructional videos out there and a good help file included.

By the end of the day I was importing files and adding effects like a pro and doing it IN REAL TIME...

I know most of you guys were already doing this but this is soooo much easier then the mickey mouse way I was doing it.

Now I have a whole slew of effects in my bag. :)

I already put my order in for the full blown producer upgrade to Sonar 7...

Now tracking in -6 db's is a snap and I track vocals @ -12 db's and they come out smooth as silk baby,   ya...

You can stack up the effects just like normal...

And the best part about it is that the sorftware I was editing with SoundForge by Sony, opens up and will run inside Sonar...freaking awesome...

Prol take me about a year to figure it all out but it is a great piece of software...

I have run Sonar 3 for years It is more than I need for karaoke or home recording I cant imagine other than plugins and FDX what sonar 6 has.

Audacity is FREE. For the purpose of recording just the vocal it is more than enough. There are tons of FREE vst plugin that can be used with it. With the money saved I can buy a nice pre amp.

I am going to use Sonar 7 for producing musak and movies dude  :brows:

Agreed that it is a tad overkill for Karaoke...but just had to say it is an awsum piece of software...

7 has real cool plugins that are so easy to use once you get set up...

It has session drummer and the thing is way easier than a drum pad and a heck of alot cheaper than an electronic drum machine.

V-vocal pitch correction, 64 bit mixers...

You can mix a home movie in surround sound...the thing is totally awesum...

I am pretty sure you can reverse WAV to MIDI...

How cool is that...

Hum a riff into the mic and record it and then turn around and crunch it to MIDI and Whabam...ready to have any pluging run on it...

The fact that it would be stupid to buy this package for just doing Karaoke should go without saying  :dancin:

I use that same program to record band, but will never recommend it for karaoke recording, unless off course you already have it.

I haven't recorded with it, setting up all the MIDI and interphasing the hardware is over my head right now,   I use my Tascam for recording the vocals and just pipe in the Waveform.

Since I already had all the tracks, it was very easy to import the WAV into Sonar and then start stacking effects up in real time.

Heck, an effects box and a compressor cost more than the Software and you can do so much more with it...

The virtual effects are so cool, you can just twist on the knobs and move the sliders around and let your ear do all the work.... LOL

I have been using Audacity and SoundForge for effects and Sonar is easier to use for me...
