I forgot to mention this last week...
At one of the shows my business partner is doing... the venue has added a Karaoke Recording Booth. It will accommodate two singers comfortably; a few more could fit in.
The have a keypad to select tunes on the outside of the booth. Two Shure microphones inside. It's $10 for two songs.
You can select from "Latin", "Pop", "Seasonal" "Special Occasion" "A Capella or Voice Message"

How much do they pay for the licensing of each song?

Not only how much, but to whom?

It was placed there by an outside vendor, like any machine put in for amusement.
I'll ask my partner if he as any idea? I believe the entire inventory as well as the specific tunes selected to sing are done through a web site?

Just went to the mall which is the largest indoor mall in Broward County. It's a place I go to pretty regularly, if nothing else, to walk.
Well, lo and behold, in the middle of one of the thoroughfares is another one of the very same karaoke booths I described in my OP. Though... there may actually be only one mic.
Anyway, having now run into one of these booths each of the last two weeks I have every reason to believe that they're going to start popping up everywhere!

There is a Recording Studio of America in a mall in my town. It is sponsored by Soundchoice. It is solely for entertainment purposes. And even gives me a good discount on used cdgs.

This is why I asked "to whom". Even the karaoke mfrs. such as Sound Choice can't license for this use.
There is a local place that will record, but the will only do it if the singer brings their own disc. The reason? Abbragation of responsibility. Nothing is licensed, but the responsibility for the use of the music now sits on the singers' shoulders.
If these booths provide the music, I'd be hard pressed to figure out HOW they got licensed....
