Isn't anyone going to start a discussion thread about the new AI season? I came on here looking for a thread about it and didn't find one. :( (if there is one, and I overlooked it... oops) Nobody watching this year? I know it's same ol', same ol', but it's danged good entertainment:) (though I don't think I'll ever want to sing *I Love Rock N' Roll* again).... Back to work for me, just thought it curious that nobody is talking about it here. . |

I guess the new season just started last night, Tuesday. Forgot to set the Tivo. I heard that Simon was complaining that the opening round losers were arrogant and argued a lot with the judges. At the start of the season the bad singers seem to be the most entertaining! LOL |

they were SO mean to some people that really didn't deserve it. That poor egyptian guy- what a nice person and they set him up...some people have no heart. And then there was a um..."healthy sized" black girl whose mom was in really bad health and you could tell it was a VERY big deal for her to get out to come to the auditions. her daughter was beyond terrible but she was a really sweet girl- and they should NOT have set her up and brought her Mom all that way to see her little girl in tears. Gotta hand it to Simon- he actually showed a little heart with that one- they escorted the girl out and told her Mom she should be very proud of her sweet daughter and hugged the Mom and girl. My favorite was the black girl that had the disabled daughter- she SAING... so far she's the only real stand out talent to "me" just MHO. I'll be watching tonight though! |

I saw this one right after yours on YouTube too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUfKk-rWmSE&NR=1 But I agree with you Paula, bad but genuinely sincere singers (and family members) shouldn't be set up like you pointed out. |

The preliminary round are the most entertaining; I watch that one (Britney and MJ) on tv and they were hilariously funny. |

Well, it finally happened last night watching AI... I think I fell in love. And I'm pretty sure it's for real this time. Paula... All those people going on there with a big, sad story to tell? Well, I have absolutely no respect for them at all. I mean, it's a singing competition. To try to sway the judges by using a sick relative or something as a crutch... is stupid. Sure, I feel bad for those people and their stories, but I think they way they go on there with their "I want to win because my daughter/son/mother/etc is sick/dying/broke/etc.... is just not right. |

Thought this might interest you folks a bit, especially those who thought Idol is "supposed" to be a vehicle for discovering new talent: http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/sto ... 436&page=1 |

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/sto ... 436&page=1 Very interesting article Cat, even though it doesn't come as a big surprise to me. So the show has been on seven years already, just think, I've never watched the show nor has the thought of ever watching it crossed my mind. Something about people letting themselves being abused by some supposed celebrity isn't real appealing to me. I'll stick to the history channel |

I think a LOT of american idol is phony... even some of the funny acts that come on during the first few weeks in the tryouts. I mean, come on, some of those people are god awful- nobody can be THAT bad and really think they'd fit into AI. It's just, like I said, pretty good entertainment. Doesn't surprise me to read that report. While talking to my boss about it yesterday, I was googling "american idol" and even came across a stupid "AI camp" that is supposed to turn you into "idol material" in 14 days..... for a nominal fee of $2,995. LMAO It's just a money making scheme pretty much. (but still entertaining the first few weeks) I feel bad for those who go there legitimately though, thinking they'll be treated fairly and judged correctly. We have a few singers from here who've went... and I was surprised to hear none of them made it past the first round. Ah well... good ol' American reality tv. . |

I start watching it every year and when karaoke is used as an adjective to describe a mediocre performance my remote automatically changes to PBS... That is a slap in the face to my talented singers and an insult to an industry and way of life that will be there when they are gone. |

I wasn't knocking it, I do watch the history channel a lot, but i'll take the hug anyway. All these supposed reality shows have pretty much ruined TV. I watch very little commercial TV anymore, hex they've even managed to ruin Nick At Nite for the most part. |

I love the History Channel too--although currently our satellite dish isn't on. We mostly just use our TV's for DVD's, VHS's (yes we still have them) and video games. Most of what I see nowadays is family movies w/my kid (we love "Cars" and "Monsters Inc.", among others). |

!! i dunno what it is about him...... but I TOTALLY like the dork with curly hair n glasses!! he sang better than I expected.... and.... I dunno.... I just like his personality!! Then of course there's the blonde guy that sang George Strait..... too bad he's blonde and kinda baby-faced (not my thing) but wow... what a voice... and what an accent!! *swoon* I didn't get to see a lot of it just bits and pieces, but from what I saw.... there weren't any tall, dark-haired rugged-type texans..... what a shame. I hope I'm wrong! |
