I found two small tools for the PC which you may find useful:
File Finder http://www.atensoftware.com
Shareware, US$ 10, 30 days trial without any restrictions
This tool finds any filename on your harddisk VERY fast. It starts to search while you type, so in general some letters are enough to see it in the result list. It is also just a small window, so it can stay on the desktop all the time.
The only disadvantage is that the result canĀ“t be "drag and dropped" into the playlist. But for the typical "Do you have the song XYZ?" it will help to at least know where on your harddisk XYZ is.
Text Ticker, http://www.slashbackassociates.com
Shareware, US$ 20, 30 days trial without any restrictions
This is great to announce the next singer on the main screen, if your host software does not offer this feature. You create a text file in notepad, e.g. like this
------
Next:
Maria (Yesterday)
, John (Barbie Girl)
, Lisa (My way)
, Fred (Mrs. Robinson)
-------
In the setup, you say that you want to show the first 4 lines of your text file, so after saving it shows you the following in a bar in the main screen:
Next: Maria (Yesterday), John (Barbie Girl), Lisa (My way) Next: Mar...
After Maria sang, you delete her name and the comma before John, save the text file and it shows you
Next: John (Barbie Girl), Lisa (My way), Fred (Mrs. Robinson) Next: Joh...
Of course, not so nice and easy like in some Host programs, but a useful alternative. The bar and the text can be colored and sized in any way you want, the text is scrolling from right to left and repeated, the scroll speed can be adjusted.
