I am still very new at this. I tool a crap shot at buying cd&g's. I think I did pretty good. I got nutech 1-19,SGB & SBG Classics, KJ Tools, Cool tracks, plus other stuff! I think I got a good start! Now I want newer material! Should I go to a auto ship system?? Is this a good idea? Or just wait for stuff to go on sell? I guess the only way to do Karaoke is by buying CD-G's! I don't know any other way of getting the music, like a site to down load it on. I don't know,,,go to a auto ship or not. Do you have auto-ship? These are the questions?????? Thank you very much! Airman15905~ Brian V~ SING ME A SONG!

Well you may want to consider going with better quality tracks than those sets, honestly not the best, but will get you going.
As far as auto release on monthly sets, i've never seen the reason with the new music that's out today, absolutely no staying power.  Keep a request list at your booth & allow the customers to write down what THEY want to sing & go from there.  It's better than buying all the new stuff just to have the new stuff only to find nobody really want to sing 90-95% of the new stuff.

I like to buy when i get the best price.  Which means i only buy stuff on sale.  Everything from clothes to karaoke discs.

There are many karaoke sites that have disc bargin bins.    Look for the sales.   Others offer free shipping and discounts over so much spent.

As Lonman said, about the longevity of todays music.  There are not going to be as many "Classic" songs as there were from the past decades.    The "oldies" are still as popular as ever.   Classic rock is still classic and in demand.    Nothing like a good rock song.

I have found that only new country songs get requested where I'm at.  The only exception being the rare rock song like Nickelback Rockstar, Hinder Lips of an Angel, Buckcherry Sorry... Which those aren't entirely "new" either.

I stay a year behind buying a collection of last years songs when they come out in Feb. or Mar.. I just got my CB 100 Best Country 2007 last week. Having bought 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 in previous years. Works out cheaper than a monthly subscription. May not be the best way for you but thats what I do.

I don't know "airman" whether you intend to KJ or you are a hobbyist.

Not knowing your intentions, I likw what you've chosen; it's a pretty good start.  I've been KJ'ing about a year now and I, coincidentally, tried what Jim-in-Tn does.  I recently bought the 2007 Chartbuster 100 Best Country.  I figured if I wait to get the newer stuff, more people would be familiar with it and want to sing it.  So far, for me, that hasn't panned out.

So... there are on-line services that will custom create CDG's.  Using such a service allows you to pick and choose just what you want!

Lastly, there is an active thread herein that lists what's been sung at our shows lately.  You'll get an idea of what is most popular for karaoke. You can then compare it to what you have.  One of the most interesting facets of this thread is how different the selection is from one part of the country to another.  That just amazes me.  Of, course the differences may be more of a reflection of the age groups of those in attendance than where they live.  But... I sense geography is also a factor!

This is almost how I will do it as well.  Most of the time the last year hits (true hits) will star being noticed a year or two AFTER their initial release.  The only exceptions I will make are like older classic rock/headbangers/etc. that get released that aren't new (per se to the music scene), but are new to karaoke.  I found along time ago that the new music isn't necessarily what singers really want.

Maybe it is because I am in Alabama, but these people WANT new country like BEFORE it is even available on Karaoke.  I may not always keep up on the current/new rock and pop (because it is rarely requested) but if I don't have the new country releases people get pissy...Not so much the regulars, but the newcomers to the bar.  And with 4 or 5 other karaoke joints in the area, I am trying to attract and retain all the new customers I can get...

My advice would be to listen to the most popular radio station in your area once in a while and see what they have requested most often...because that is likely what people are going to want to sing.... even the old regulars want to mix it up now and again with a cool new song they heard on the radio or saw the video on CMTV or whatever....

Based on what you have, I would haunt karaoke.com and buy any DK disks that come on sale. I bought all of the DK Premiere, Applause, and Encore disks as they came on sale -- for $5.00 apiece or less. That gave me 1500 tracks for less than $500.00, all of excellent sonic quality. They will sound much better than what you have, which are all lower-quality tracks.

If you are going to be running your own show for pay and want more work, strongly recommend you invest in the SoundChoice Foundation 1 & 2 and as many "bricks" as you can afford. If you don't want to spend that much, consider perusing it's list of songs and cherry-picking the list you see there. Then go to tricerasoft.com, get a couple-few hundred-packs of songs for $100.00 each, and buy the Zoom version of those.

Higher quality music will increase the value of your show.

I don't recommend blindly purchasing new monthlies.   They are premium priced and you will fill your song books with songs no one will be singing in 6 months.  Shop a little and you can fill you books with good songs for an average of 50 cents a song.  Note I said average.  Cherry picking will cost a little more but on average I try to stay in the 50 cent a song range.  Buy your current hits at the end of the year (I also use chartbuster yearly hits) and spend you Karaoke bucks on solid sets like DK,   chartbuster essential,  or sound choice bricks and their 450 set.  I recommend you be frugal here.  It's easy to let your purchase of songs run out of control.
