Ok look at this .150 people packs this place..(1500-$2500 on a regular basis) We are still working on moving into the other room where we will sit 400 or more. Anyway the only way we can setup is with the speakers toward the cinder block wall. When we get cranked the verbs and distortion coming off the wall is horrendous. Where the covered pool table is  where the singers are. Too close to the wall feedback.  We are back on the other side of the bar behind the camera.. To right is full plate glass on the front wall. I have setup many venues and this one is driving us nuts at times. (With these problems we still have the best sounding system around). Ideas??

BTW the guy standing with his back to the camera and shadowed is one of the owners He is waiting tables. He is a businessman and easy to communicate with (just gave us a payraise) . This is why we are still here.

It looks like this is a long skinny room, and you are aiming your speakers at the skinny part. If that's the case, that is a bad situation. Can you turn the speakers towards the length of the room? Towards the far corner maybe?

I can see how  the speakers facing the wall could be a problem.

I think you have to face the speakers into the crowd -
maybe put the speakers all the way at the other end facing the singers ?
or since the ceilings look pretty high maybe put them on stands a little higher then normally  prefered angled DOWN into the center of the room ? or go the other way and lay them down on the floor ?

These are just some solutions I have had to use in the past in similiar venues.

the first thing you need to do is cross your speakers instead of faceing them at the wall and be sure to keep you mike behind the line of site of the speakers ,also you
can use a off-board eq to set your mixx-to- the room accoustics

It looks like that wall would be a nice place to hang some sort banner telling them what a wonderful KJ you are and also sucking up all those nasty bouncing waves.

have had similar probs in an old exposed stonewalled building with wooden floors...feedback was horrendous and the consensus was the same as what Weedy was saying...drape a sheet or a blanket behind the stage or the place where your singers are singing...and since ya have to do it, it might as well contain your kj name and a few other details too  :hug:

I understand that you have to be set up behind the bar because that's the only place to set up, but would it be possible to put ur speakers on stands at the end/back of the room facing the front?  Perhaps you can talk the owner into letting you mount the speakers on the wall and run some cables over to ur booth.  Aside from putting some type of fabric up on over the brick, that's the only suggestion I have.  Good luck though, and let us know what you end up doing!

The best thing those fabric/banners or what-not do is to add to the fire hazard. Those material only absorbed the high end of the sound wave spectrum and only if they are  thick enough; leaving the rest of the spectrum to play havoc as reflected waveform.

Try speakers placement and eq.

When you say distortion..you mean from stuff vibrating on the walls?

Or does is it just sound distorted from the speakers?

Different speaker angle or EQ settings need changed. Or turn down the overall volume.

How many speakers are you using?
