After years of reading layman interpretations of computer karaoke legalities and trying to defend a changing industry and promote progress here for the newbies here I am done. My grandpa passed down a rip saw, a cross cut and other tools that he used 100 years ago. Now I could prove that he made better cabinets and homes than all the modern technologies now. They were made by hand and with love. In those days they did not raise or build a home with regulations or permits they built them with neighbors and a foundation of love which lasted 100 years. Now they build houses that totally destroy the economy and are nothing more than a cracker box. THEY ARE ILLEGAL The power tools take vital energy and pollute the atmosphere. There has been no legislation passed about these atrocities but they are illegal. They violate a family way of life that we have known for generations. NOW! You want to regulate another love of ours (music) and tell us what we can sing where and how much it will cost... You have one hell of a battle on your hands!!! For generations we didnt charge for public perforamaness now you are posting here with so much emotion arguing the difference between $50 & $150. Right now we get $175 with $50 in bar/food tab. What you argue about will not increase your business one iota. It is childish, shallow and does nothing to promote karaoke in any region. When I was still as a singer I had over 350 cd's which might more than legal cd's that KJ'S have . I apologize for getting drunk and getting carried away and being abusive on this forum. But after years off calling me illegal, a liar and an ass-hole after awhile I come unglued ' I'm tired of it when you have no proof of legal legislation or otherwise. All the arguments here are assumptions and wishfull emotions. One cannot stretch copyright laws which apply to copies of vinyl records to this technology' Until congress updates the laws nothing applies. At their present rate it should be 2015. In the meantime do not attempt to strap us with a general interpretation of vague laws. There is no legislation or laws which would require a federal agency to expend 1000's of dollars (they do do bust unless after months of investigations and ample proof) RIAA or ASCAP HAS nothing to do with copyright or the legalities of computer karaoke.. If you cant stand the heat then get out of the kitchen!!!! BTW This guy is over 100 years old from that carpenter and worth more to me than all the cd's in the world for he was made by someone I love forever. ![]() |

Ollie I have to agree with your stance. Until the laws are amended to reflect current technology it is futile to discuss what can and cannot happen. Nobody really knows for sure until a precedence is set. I have been reading the same banter for 6 years now and I'm no more closer to the truth than I was 6 years ago. I agree that it will be many more years before it becomes crystal clear on what is or is not legal. By then it will probably not make any difference because I will be out of the business... ![]() All we can do is make up our own minds what is right and what is wrong. One day we will know. Until then business must go on. |
