Hi guys, I know this is newbie question. I would like to have the karaoke equipment, as this is for home, I'm not trying to win the competition here but at least decent one with below $1000 budget. Also how do I get the karaoke songs from? I would like to have the songs that I can keep it update. So, could you guys give me the explaination about those above criteria? I'm IT person and I'm familiar about computer stuff but I'm newb to karaoke thing. Thanks guys in advance ps : I browsed the net, there is the karaoke equipment with song in it but I can't update the song which I don't want that. |

I take it English is your 2nd language? For an IT person, you have some language issues here. No biggie, just asking. For the karaoke setup for what you're looking for, under a grand, my best solution is to get an all in one system, such as a PA system. OR get a component system with a cheaper player and some small speakers, cheap mics, and mixer/amp. There's another thread on here talking about the DFX6 mixer. Works great for hooking up your player, microphone, and giving you good FX on your mics. Then you go to your speakers or an amp that has speaker connections! |

ET I am going to tackle your music question first. I recommend you buy music only in the CDG fomat. CDG or CD+G is the industry standard Since you are just starting out I would recommend buying a collection of several cds from Sound Choice or Chartbuster. Since the recordings are usually not the original recordings the quality varies from one manufacture to another. Opinions on music fill the archives of this forum but you can start small and build your collection to suit the tastes of your family and friends. Even if you want to set this up on a computer start with CDG disks and a CDG player. Later you can buy a program to rip all your disks to a laptop and use it as a player but don’t complicate things in the beginning. Sound Choice has a new player that sounds like it might be good. The one I have is no longer made. In addition to a player and songs you will need a PA system to play the music. This consists of a Mixer that lets you hook up the player and microphones and adjust the sound and volumes to get a good mix of the sound. The mixer may be separate from the amplifier or combined with it to send the sound to the speakers. The amplifier may also be in the speakers ( called active speakers) or if speakers do not include amplifier they are called passive speakers. So many ways to go. For home use I bought a small PA system that came with a mixing amp and passive speakers as a set (Yamaha Stagepass 300). I recommend you go to a music store where you can listen to the equipment and compare. You will also need speaker stands or wall mount to get the speakers up high for the best sound. Last you will need a couple of good microphones I bought Shure SM58 wired microphones and feel like it was the best choice. Have fun. Jim-n-TN |

Since you are an IT person, its better for you to just download the files from legal sites. That way you only get what you want. and not a disc with 10 songs and you only sing 1 or 2. There are threads here about where to get those tracks. |

Heya ET! The reason I didn't say what to get as far as karaoke songs is, I have no EARTHLY idea where you're living. As Jian can attest to, what is a standard over there, may not be here (in UK or North America). |

If the OP is asian, then the logical format is DVD or vcd. But regardless of where you come from, and if the songs you sings are mostly English, then CDG is what you should look into. |

I have tried free http://www.51mike.com/. It seems to be pretty cool. Its client software is Chinese-only. 1) Large collection: not only Chinese, but also Korean, Japanese, and English. However English collection is limited. 2) Most songs have original music videos. 3) Online KTV room where you can jam with friends remotely. 4) Scoring 5) Online PK |
