Post subject:  Contracts For Bars And KJ
Would any of you guys and girls have a template contract for a bar and a KJ I am thinking of bringing on board. Thanking you all in anticipation

Contracts in bars are generally not enforcible, you can try, most won't sign & if they do it don't mean anything as they can always say that you weren't holding up your end by some means & let you go and usually will cost more in court fees & time than it's going to be ultimately worth if you had to try & enforce them.
Contracts with employess such as non-compete clauses are a little more enforceable, but even these are sometimes worked around.  I hired a guy that had a non-compete clause with another company, they tried to sue him & me & lost.

Since you are in a another country, you would do better to get one over there.   Different legal system.

TT...you hit the nail on the head.  For the majority of the time, a contract is just a piece of paper, that if there is ever a need to enforce it....it would be a waste of time money.  It's not even a good threat.......ie, lets go spend $1,000 to get back a $175 on a gig the bar owner won't pay.....then will most certainly not ever hire you again after dragging them to court.  Better to just cut you losses and move on to a better bar....MrD

the only time I think a non-compete clause would work for a karaoke/dj show is if the employee that LEFT had stolen valuable secrets and used them in the new show... such as stolen software that made the show unique. Then you're not only doing a non-compete but also theft, sabotage, unfair business practices, the whole shebang.

But for something as COMMON as karaoke hosting?? NO WAY could that be enforced!

I know, first hand, that non-compete clauses in contracts aren't enforcable in NE.  I found that out when the "gentleman" that I was KJing for decided to start stiffing me on the money we agreed on.  He denied everything and tried to sue me for starting my own company.  5 years later, I'm still here.

I used a contract once, the guy insisted on one, so my wife re wrote a contract that my buddys band uses for festivals. I printed several copys ect and then the guy decided after one show (packed house) that karaoke was a bad investment   :drunk:  .Normaly I print flyers or posters for the bar, I would think that is about as binding as most contracts. I really believe that for most places we do shows the threat of not having us is plenty to keep them from trying to shaft us. also we are in a rural area word of that type of stuff gets around.
