Post subject:  Mixer recomendation
Hi Guys,
I am new to Karaoke world. I am interested in buying a mixer which will take input from internet (computer connect to internet and audio of computer connect to the mixer). The most important feature I am looking into this mixer is Key Control because the Karaoke songs which are streamed are in high key and I would like to turn down the key so that I can sing with the rest of the music.

One of the local dealer is recommending Vocopro DTX - 5000G. He is quoting $350 for this mixer. I have read some of the posts hear and lot of you guys think Vocopro is not a good brand (sonically). If that is the case are there other mixers out there which would sound good and have key control and of course take audio input.

Any help on this is highly appreciated.

The key change function should be in your hosting program. A good pro level mixer need not have such function.

And as for the brand you mention; read comments about it in this forum.

Unfortunatley the hosting program does not have a key control.  I am interested in knowing if people use mixers from brands other than VocoPro and has a key control function

Don't do it -- buy the VocoPro I mean. While it may be one of the few that has a key changer, it just isn't worth it. How do I know? I have a VocoPro mixer gathering dust in my house.

I also bought a SYM-500 that was intended for a practice unit (I got a really good deal on it). It is still in use for the rare occasion I need a hardware key changer -- it doesn't mix anything any more.

If you are using a hosting program without a key control, it is a bad one. Just replace that -- much cheaper than buying an overpriced mixer just to get key change. I never use my hardware ones any more, and in retrospect I wish I hadn't bought them.  I wouldn't have if I had come here first and listened, but I didn't find this place until long after I got those dead-end units.

is it just me or do vocopro and beringer compete to see who can turn out the worst equipment?  I have seen 1 or 2 pieces from each that are fairly decent for the $$ (still get what you pay for). otherewise both fail to impress me. I would say that vocopro does make the best disposable wireless mics ive seen. they sound ok , but dont have the antifeedback qualitys of an sm58. one side of my beringer cross over still works..I guess thats as much as I can say good about them..at least cheep gear from beringer is cheep.

yup, I'd tend to agree.

I DO have an ap/mixer that does have a key changer, but I don't use it.

I MUCH prefer to use the one that plays my karaoke tracks, and adjust it there!

Thanks a bunch for the reply. Unfortunatley there is only one hosted server which streams "hindi" songs and it does not have key changer. I hear you guys on the quality of the vocopro but I am stuck with the choices I can make and given that, do you know any other company out there (yamaha, denon, pioneer etc.) who could be manufacturing mixers with key changers ?

In what format are your karaoke files? Convert it to avi or mpeg and use winamp with peaceMaker plugin.

You can diss  Behringer if you want. I know they have had some build quality issues. But the fact is that you will see Behringer gear in day-in, day-out use by professional live-sound people. You can't say the same about Vocopro.

Behringer stuff for the most part sounds real good, which is why some pros use it. The Vocopro microphones I have seen are terrible. They have sibilant pop, poor low-frequency characteristics, and constantly are feeding back when I use them. I sing through Shure mics as well, and I know the difference.

Behringer is low-end, to be sure. But their equipment is always a high value for what you pay for it. Vocopro, on the other hand, is both bad and expensive.

Get a separate hardware key changer. Or buy the SYM-600 to do that function, putting it in between your PC and your mixer music in. Or use the key changer in your sound card driver (I know the Realtek AC97 has one).

There are lots of options.

The Karoke songs are streming from internet with songs lyrics displayed in the brower. I am not sure how I can copy this streaming audio+song lyrics displayed to the disk. If i could do that then I can use my computer as my Karaoke player with Key Changer and out put to any mixer (without key chnager) and then to the receiver

do you have any recomendation on hardware key changer ? You also mentioned there are lot of options, any suggestions on those ?
