Hi Suzanne..it's Karacanary..thanks for thinking about me. From what I can gather, you are doing a favour to many in "burning" their songs on a CD for them...am I reading you correctly Suzanne?.

Hi! Well, that's not really the point, no. It's like posting songs here except it is all one "theme" (in this case, 80's music), with a certain number of participants, and on CD.
Each person mails me their songs on disk, tape, or whatever, with the money. (I collect business cards, so I usually put that you can send me the cards instead of money)
Say we have ten people participating, and each person sends in 3 songs. There would then be 30 songs on the disk or disk set. They would all be 80's songs, and it would be like a karaoke rotation. The songs would be listed on the CD thusly:
Take on Me by John Smith
The Warrior by Sue Patterson
Kokomo by Ted Jones
Let's Dance by Jerry Johnson
Manic Monday by Connie Morris
etc.
and then the next disk would have the same rotation but with different songs, unless there are duets or someone does not submit as many songs (just like real karaoke except on a disk).
And the set would come with a nice cover and a list of the songs, like a regular CD. Of course you can rip it on your iPod or whatever you want because it's yours by then.
The deadline is May 1st, so once I get all the songs by that deadline, I would figure out the rotation, burn the disks, print the covers, put it all together and mail each one back out to everyone within a month or two.
Unlike submitting your songs online, this is something that the participants will have forever and will not be deleted nor dependent on people's bad connections to the net.
There are no public comments or critiques allowed on these, though. They are Just For Fun.
It's just a fun project. We have been doing these for years on JOLT.
It's true that SS and other sites have a more immediacy that you may prefer. Of course it's all voluntary and EVERYONE IS WELCOME!!
We usually have at least 5 or 6 people participating, sometimes many more. It depends on how many people send how many songs in as to how many disks are in the set.
In the past we have had many projects, including: country, gender bender, decades (one song per decade 50's-now), disco, showtunes, R&B, 60's, Valentine's Day, Beatles, Christmas, etc. Someone else came up with the 80's idea and tried to do the project years ago, but then stuff happened and they weren't able to complete it (that happens sometimes to some people), so I decided to revive the project.
Connie suggested that this time I invite people from SS and KSK as well.
Hope some of you can participate!
Suzanne
