Looking at a listing in my local Swap paper and see a set of EV 1502 15" Speakers for 400/pair.  Is this a good price for this model used assuming they are in good condition. I have looked over the net and havent been able to find anything that would give me an idea on an original price for these puppies.  The guy has some other items listed one being an audio technica condenser mic that sells for less brand new than he has listed his used for.  Thats why im being cautious.

Thanks In Advance,
Punchy

Im not firmiliar with that model, But I Paid almost $1000 for my sx500s used. at the time they were selling for $850 each new. unlike most equipment manufacturers EV really doesnt have any "low level" lines. in fact they are the only company I can think of that doesnt allow there name to be put on some garbage entry level stuff. I wish I could help you more. be carefull that the cabs have the EV drivers in them , and not swapped out for some garbage.

Depending on the age, they usually go anywhere from $50-200 per used.

We will assume you are looking at the SH1502ER, there were actually a couple of revisions on these over the years so I wouldn't know for sure which ones you are looking at. If the horn is flush to the cabinet in front it would be the later generation, if the horn is curved it would be the earlier version. Both even though rated at 200 watts continuous( I think this was a very conservative rating) are very musical speakers. They are probably from somewhere around the early 80's and EV just wasn't known for making junk at that time. They crossed over at about 1.6K and had a pretty smooth compression driver in the upper end and quite possibly had an 15" EV SRO in the low end. $400 does sound a little high depending on their condition and weather or not they are still loaded with the EV drivers and how hard they were used.  I would think you should be able to find a good pair between 200 and 300. If they are in good shape they would blow away many cabinets being manufactured these days in the 400 to 500 hundred dollar range. I'm not positive but I'm thinking they probably sold for somewhere around 700 each when they were new.

Left a msg with no response.  Yeah I belive they are the SH1502er but unable to confirm.  From the info I could gather they are a late 80's early 90's production line.  I would like to get a look at them but I think either they are sold or they dude just isnt that interested in calling anyone back.  Eh.  Did pick up 2 NIB Shure SM58's for 120 so it was a productive shopping day.

You can't go wrong with Electro-Voice. Best speakers made. These SH1502's were a mainstay for many years, and still will out perform most speakers in their class. they are a bit heavy at 81 lbs., but then the price is right. These have the Time Path phasing, which puts the high frequency and low frequencies in phase as the sound exits the box. These have excellent bass response, down to 46hz, and have a relatively flat overall response, which is important for equalizing different venues, room shapes and accoustics.

Here are the technical spec sheets:

Again there were several different model throughout the years, try to get an exact model.  Most EV stuff is very good to decent, but whether they are worth the $400 is up to the age & condition.
