Does anyone know of a link to see a list of the most requested karaoke songs in recent years? Of course this list would change from week to week. But I'd like to find a site that I could refer to in building my sing list.

I Know it isnt the answer you want to hear, but it depends on the area, and venue. One KJ will tell you it's country, one will tell you it rock. if you had the foundation 1 & 2 & the bricks, you would have a pretty good crosssection of music.

On one night I wont do nothing but all country. the next night thr rap crowd comes out. never can guess right.

I kinda support that last answer. I don't think you'll find a particular list. It will vary depending on the crowd you play to, as well as what part of the country you're in. Around here they always go heavy on the country, unless you're in a younger type hangout, which may be heavy on the rock and pop. But I don't think you'll specifically find a list of most requested. You may find a list of most over used songs - Paradise by The Dashboard Lights, etc.

Agree & disagree. I think a top 100 "most requested" songs would be pretty standard in MOST areas. But it would vary from week to week for sure. Too bad someone didn't have the time to compile a weekly or even monthly Billboard type chart for karaoke. This would have to involve kj's dedication (involvment all over the nation) as well & would probably be very time consuming, but it would be interesting to see how the overall list compares with everyone elses show.

Why do you want to build your song list based on the most popular songs? Personally, I love it when somebody does more obscure stuff. I could die happy if I never heard "I Touch Myself" or "American Pie" or "Love Shack" again in a karaoke bar. Booooring.

Ultimately, you should just sing what you like and what works for your voice. And definitely try new stuff constantly. You might be surprised at some of the songs you end up singing really well.

BUT you have to understand, having those classics are easy, comfortable songs for newbies...

well, see the cultural differences..... I have never had a single request for "Paradise by The Dashboard Lights" of "American Pie". I have several hundred shows behind my belt. But Hardly a night goes by someone doesnt do "Crazy" or "Because I got high" "Beer for my horses".

But following one of those I will have "who let the dogs out", or "back that thang up".

first show I did in a Biker bar, we didn't have the first Born to be wild, or any rock at all. it was mostly country...... Just when you think you know what they want SUPRISE!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I guess I would have to choose a specific genre of music. I just thought there might be a karaoke top 40 list somewhere for each genre like rock, pop, country and R&B. Like Lonman said...that would be cool. Not that I don't like people to sing a wider variety of stuff, I do... I just want to know (for me) what the most popular requests are since I still have so little experience in this field, and make sure I have at least those songs in my library.

It has been my experience as a singer, that most people sing the same songs every time I see them at Karaoke. (i.e. - Big John sings Amazed; Sarah sings The Jump Off; Leather sings Crazy; etc, etc.) So my advice has always been, buy what they ask for.....sure, you are going to end up with some songs that no one sings occasionally, but if you stay in the same place, or the same town, you will see the same people on the same nights in the same bars singing the same songs, night after night after night...you get the idea. I travel across the country and sing wherever I light....sometimes it is a year or even two years between trips to the same city....IF the same KJ is playing in town, I go to his/her show and DANG ME if all the same people aren't still there...most of them singing the same songs.....OF COURSE, I am guilty also....I have about 30 songs that make up my core routine...and usually I follow the same KJ to each venue on different nights...(Monday @ Bar A; Tues @ Bar B; Wed @ Players Club, etc..) I try real hard not to sing the same songs two weeks in a row at the same club....BUT it depends on the KJ's selection if he only has 4 songs out of the 78 or so that I CAN sing...then I am stuck....or I have to find something new in his/her book that I can mangle this week.....usually I will make a list of all the songs in their book that I can sing; all the ones I would like to try and all the ones I MIGHT try...then I can order copies for myself and practice....I KNOW, I AM ADDICTED....oh well.......
