Had a young fem Beagle stray up to the house this week......Was really shy and cowered badly....She skittered on her belly as flat as she could get whenever anyone came near....Really skeered-been badly abused......hungry.....starving......pitiful....really pretty eyes and face..... Ain't had no pets since ex removed her yapping mutts, but still had pet door into back yard.......Beagle figured out pet door instantly.........and knew better than to poop in house-hits the door instead. Ok, it's been 3 days and dog has made this her home and me her daddy....she's working out perfectly.....Starting to walk tall and confident....very, very affectionate and talks to TV-especially when she sees other dogs and animals displayed......wads up in my lap whenever I sit down and tucks her nose under my armpit then refuses to budge....follows me all over the house n yard and will stand out in the drive and bark at nothing to announce she 'owns' this hood, then plops down and watches out for intruders....chases cats, too! Yep.....looks like she is going to work out....dosed her with left over wormer and flea/tick drops.....taking her for heartworm check this week. Life is good! ![]() |

Here she is.....You can see she's awful skinny and still shy.....I gotta get her used to the sound of the scooters and then get her used to riding with me. I finally decided on a name for her..."Scooter".....What da ya think, is Scooter a good name for her? ![]() No, those are NOT Charmin's thongs hanging off bike in background....Those thongs belong to gal long since forgotten.....They been there over two weeks and need to be replaced with something more permanent.....Taking auditions at preseent. Charm?.....Didn't you promise me a pair of your thongs? |

Keith, Beagles are cool dogs, they really warm up to their owners... The bark drives me nuts (they howl) but all the hounds do that... I guess it's the Yankee in me.. ![]() Quote: I finally decided on a name for her..."Scooter".....What da ya think, is Scooter a good name for her?
For a female dog ? Not so sure.. A hound like that in Louisiana--- I'd say "Agnes", or "Enid". |

beagles dont bark they give tongue or speak...lovers of hounds (a beagle is a hound) would shudder at you saying they bark |

Gotta agree with ya sugah, beagles, like all hounds, bay (as we hillbillies call it). My dad was an avid hunter, we had 'em all the time when I was growin' up. |

I rode to hounds almost from the time I could walk...at seven I had a pony who kept pace with the huntsman, he jumped anything and we were always first to the kill. He was such a blood thirsty little dude he was totally fascinated by the whole process. The day I was blooded was such a proud moment, and of course tradition was you didnt wash your face for 24 hours after. I hunted till I was 6 months preggers too |

Which ex belonged to the Schnauzer Keith ? Btw, Don't be surprised if the dogs owner comes around looking for her. We had the same thing happen with a few Basset Hounds . A person would've thought one dog was never fed, was abused, however after about a week of thinking we had a new pet that adopted us the owners came looking for her... Those things roam. Turned out, the owners were a sweet elderly couple that loved this dog, and she was really glad to see them... 6 months later, history repeated itself.. ![]() ![]() Look at it this way, after Robbie (assuming you've inherited this dog) this new roommate can't be any less productive ![]() |

Ain't nobody gonna pry this dog away from me.....I'll be all over their head and the dog eating at their legs if they do....I got this little bytch so spoiled she'd die fighting to remain here. The Schnauzer belonged to the last ex.....That poor dog and her daughter fought for last place status behind her horse....If i was to find that dog now, she would leap in my truck and never look back....Same for my former step daughter. How many folks here notice women today who fuss and fret over their little dogs, horses or cats, but totally ignore their children?.....My last wife would spend endless effort and expense fussing with horse/dog diet and medical care but toss her child a sack of fast food every night and ignore her while she surfed the net for more pet care info......Some here might not notice, but my step daughter did.....So did I. |

I only knew of two women like that in my life Keith. They didn't have both feet planted on the ground, but not sure the kids noticed because the kids were REALLY REALLY messed up, drugs, alcohol, and institutionalized in both cases.. These were extremely self-absorbed women too that just seemed to float thu life oblivious to anything profound, you know stuff like the fact that they have children, or combining Soap Operas, food, and flea markets, and church socials don't comprise the Seven Wonders of the Natural World; Or, that if you combine the IQ scores of both them and their husband and mulitply that score by two, the dog is still the brains of the family. Fortuneately very few I've known have been that aloof.. These women just seemed oblivious to anything and everything real. Keith, just curious since stray domestic dogs aren't anything I've ever really heard of.. How do conditions such as that happen enabling a dog to survive, what do they eat in the wild, just stuff from garbage cans ? Would that have been a recently abandoned animal ? See up here isnce it's not that rural. the dog will end up impounded because somebody will call animal control about a wandering aboandpned animal, or it won't survive the colder months. Seems it's a dog that grew up around people if she knows to snuggle up and put her head under your arm |

This is a different world, Steven.....We have very limited 'rescue' resources for animals and people...................I live on a hwy.....Right at the parish/county line....Folks tend to discard there animals here...I've been here 15 years and attempted to adopt several fine looking dogs that strayed up......But each time I discovered why they were strays...They were rejected by previous owners because they had some bad habits.....Didn't make good pets.....Whenever that would happen, I would haul them to town and beg the shelter to try to have them adopted, but usually they were put to sleep. Funny how some things parallel......I've attempted to adopt several stray women in my life too......and it never failed I eventually learned why they were strays.....they had some bad habits and had been rejected because of it. |
