Post subject:  JVC Triple Play v. Pioneer PDV10G Dual Tray CD Changer
Does anyone have experience with the pioneer dual tray cdg player? Are there separate outputs for each tray on either the JVC or the Pioneer? In other words, I know you can load the discs while another is playing, but can you actually cue them up?

The JVC Triple tray can be loaded w/3 discs but only one can be cued.
So there will be a few seconds delay when finishing one song until cuing the next.....

Neither the Pioneer or the JVC have separate outputs. These don't allow you to play a song into another like a dj player.
For karaoke, the Pioneer player is a nicer player (IMO), but is also more expensive. It allows you to cue up your next song, automatically pauses if your singer isn't ready, program & cue the next song (JVC can cue the next 2), ejects the tray that is finished, the key changer automatically resets after a song is done.
The JVC is a little quicker loading & cueing (don't know the triple tray features off hand, I prefer 2 single trays - less mechanical parts to break down). Only complaint I have on it is the key changer doesn't reset automatically when the tray is opened or when a song is done.

Plus Pioneer has a countdown timer, great for bathroom breaks. Lets you know how much time is left on the song. Pioneer v JVC, Pioneer hands down.

Pioneer also has the ability to remember an image. Although it's not really made for it, I play the custom screen to what I want to freeze the image at, press stop, and then eject the cdg. Then I can use that player to play music cds all night long, and the video image never goes away!!

I make custom screens on karaokebuilder... and it's kewl to switch the video image back to the ad I make for the venue, or my own stuff... after the singer is done doing their thing!

How many KJ's use VCD's - I know I never have, never had anyone bring one to me? They could be more popular elsewhere, I don't know. If you need VCD capability, then the Pioneer won't fit your need.

I use cdg's. Never have used the dvd's. Some of my folks bring in their own vcd's, but that's not a problem.

I have the triple tray, but also use a house twin tray at one venue. I'd take the Pioneer. Quick load/read time, time remaining, one-touch vocal reduction (no remote needed) are nice features. Also like that you can put it in pause mode before it even reads the cdg. A bit pricier and not bundled with disc packs like the the triple trays though. Also need to be gentle with the trays as they can get out of alignment.

Yeah, the JVC is hard to pass up when you can get a bundle of discs with the purchase. Especially when you are starting out like I am.

I saw a package that included the JVC, four of the Chartbusters Essential 450 sets (1800 songs total!!), and 2 cheap mics for $738.00.

I hear mixed reviews on the quality of the Chartbuster CDG's, but WOW that's a good value!

Hey Ice, if I were in your position, I would snatch up that $738.00 for the JVC triple player + all those CB Essentials and run before the sale ends this month. I'm half tempted to do that myself and toss toss out a lot of my cheaper CDG's for the CB's and just have another backup player. Or maybe give the player as a Christmas gift for someone next year. Personally, I wouldn't use the Pop side of them. They may get you by, but you'll probably end up replacing 70-80% of them (the pop/rock) down the road. The price is great & yes some of the versions are fine (like any manufacturer), but you're more than likely going to be replacing the majority of the versions (pop/rock).

Wow! That crappy, huh? Well, could you give a guess at the percentage of country songs (which are pretty good by all accounts) in the collection? What I'm getting at is maybe even if the pop/rock stinks, the large number of country songs might make it worth it just the same.

Whaddaya think of that, Lon? :)

Believe me Marty, I am trying my best to convince these guys that I should take this deal!! :lol:

BUT, I trust their judgment and respect their experience. :)

I have gotten a lot of good advice since I started participating in this forum...it has been an invaluable experience! (Have I kissed enough butt, yet!!) :wink:

The country will be 98% useable - that's their forte'. I wouldn't say that the Pop/Rock is 'that" bad but probably 30-40% are useable (IMO). You'll probably have somewhere around a half & half mix of country & rock with some standards thrown in. I'd guess 60% of the set will be decent enough to use which would make the buy ok, just may want to replace the crappy versions as you can.

That's good enough for me, Lon. I'm buying!! I do realize that I have to replace a lot of the crappy songs, though.

I have just been stuck in 'analysis paralysis' for the past 2 weeks and I want to pull the trigger on something!!

I think if 60% of the songs are usable -- that is still a deal. That would be about 1080 songs for under $500...I'll take it.

Actually, I went to a karaoke tonight and sang 'Purple Rain' by Prince and the version was a Chartbuster and I thought it was pretty good.

Anyway, I am going out tomorrow and getting the JBL Eon15 G2's and the Mackie CFX 12 (per Lonman's recommendation) and I couldn't be more PSYCHED!!
