Post subject:  editing programme for sound recording

dont know if this is in the right  thread and have searched for helped but to no avail...
on saturday my husband who does his own gigs and also karaoke did his own show with just him singing and it was recorded on laptop but not the one i was using with backing tracks on and mixer and then put on disc but it sounds warbly and you can hear some sound in  back ground ...is there any programme editing kit that he could use to play with to see if he can edit it...


also if he is practising how can he record himself with laptop and mixer to give good sound

It would be very hard to diagnose a hardware problem without knowing what kind of hardware was used.  Just a guess but the bad sound might be comming from recording in a compressed format and then trying to mix.  As far as editing software goes it's pretty much a matter of "Garbage in-Garbage out."  You might be wasting your time trying to save that recording if it sounds bad at every stage of playback.
