I'm pretty well done with MTU Hoster and I've yet to use it. Got everything loaded, all worked great, next day 70% of my songs have disappeared. Recover them, do a backup (who knows how good the backup really is...read on)....find that even though .kma files are showing, they're empty! Songs come up with the number, but click on it, NO SONG....So I figure out it is the Pioneers that are missing..>Upload all the Pioneers again..>This morning, search for all .kma files....almost all gone again.

I don't know where these songs are going - if anyone finds them somewhere, would you send me them? Ready to switch to Compuhost as I can't afford to continue to spend hours and hours reloading music that might walk away again.

Serves me right for buying when it was a new release trying to be Vista compatible.  DAMNIT.....

:(

  Karen K,

Sorry to hear you're having "issues" with that program. Can you at least run  your show with laser/cdg players until you get the situation under control? Or do you have a back-up readily available computer wise?  That must be a real pain to keep having to load and reload. I'm sure you'll get it the way you need it. Me thinks you don't give up easily. Just a fellow KJ who cares  .

ps: I wish I could help you out but not that versed with programming. I'm sure someone will jump on and steer you in the right direction.  C' ya behind the mic :)

Wow. Unbelievable. I'm going through the same thing as you guys right now. Trying to get everything ripped and onto computer to wean me of CDGs onstage.

I'm almost done, and I can't imagine what I'd do if what happened to you happened to me at this point. And  no, it doesn't serve you right. That's a premium software package that cost you three times what mine did, and it should be the most trouble-free given it's price.

I appreciate the heads-up. To start I'm just going with the basic  Siglos player  that came with the Power CD-G Ripper. I've got everything in files just like my CDs and will load manually for now. But eventually I want something more upscale. Apparently that will be Compuhost or the promised Siglos update I guess.

My only hang-up right now is dual screen. I get my son back this weekend and I hope he'll get 'er up. This graphics card... an XFX GeForce... was his choice because he and his gaming friends like it for dual screen gaming. He said it's a little tricky to set up but hang in there and he'll get it going. We'll see.

Best of luck to you.

BH

Yup, still have all my CDGs - if I hadn't spend the literally HUNDREDS of hours, I wouldn't care. The fact that others are experiencing the same thing tells me it isn't a harddrive issue, and I'm running a BRAND new computer so I have doubts about that. My karaoke computer is NOT on line, I have no other programs on it, etc.

I have a Western Digital "book" backup copy and a laptop with Hoster LIte on it, but I am really scared to try and run the backup copy through it in case there is something "wrong" with the song files and I corrupt that too.

Thanks for all the sympathy - it is SOOO appreciated.

Man, I'm ready for a DRINK!

Wow, that stinks. I can't help you with Hoster, but I can help you get up and running with your computer until you find out what's wrong with Hoster.

I have been using this program for a couple of weeks. One thing I like is that with a plugin you have both Key control AND Tempo adjustment. The program has built in rotation control and other hosting features, but I haven't figured out how to use them. I just click on the two files(1 MP3 and 1 CDG) in the folder they are in and the song launches. I have my windows set to launch files on a single click instead of double click so a click on the CDG file and then a click on the MP3 file right after that gets the song loaded. I don't know why it's like that but that's how it works. It sounds complicated, it's really simple.

Ok, enough suspense. Download autokj, winamp and the Pacemaker plugin. I suggest you install it on a desktop and play with ithem for a while before you put it on your laptop.

I have the PC connected to the mixer with a standard 1/8" from the computer sound card to two RCA jacks which can plug directly into the line in like for a CD player or you can get a couple of RCA to 1/4" adapters and plug into the line in on two channels or a single channel that has R and L 1/4" line in inputs.

The program has a volume control, buttons for start, stop, pause, next track, previous, track. It has a graphic eq, there is a song progress bar and a time counter, it also lists what song is playing. You can play songs one at a time or add an entire folder. I don't know if you can have 10,000 files in one folder, but I haven't tried that yet. I don't know anything about KMA files, all my files are in couplets of 1 CDG and 1 MP3 that I ripped with audiograbber. I haven't tried to see if winamp/autokj will play zip files directly, but if it can you can zip them up and have half the files to deal with and save quite a bit of storage space too. I use winrar instead of winzip and it works GREAT.

It's going to take a little while to fool around with it to learn how autokj/winzip/pacemaker works, but IMO it's worth it. Now that I've gotten used to it I'm using it all the time.

I've also used Karafun before but my computer was crashing, however you might not have a problem with it. Karafun is simple too, but because of my computer crashing repeatedly I can't recommend it. Other people have had no problems with it.

One other inexpensive program to look into is Siglos from PowerKaraoke, they have a free demo. It looked simple and powerful and I think it's under $50.

Another one to try that looks really professional and works good is the free player from Tricerasoft. Just because it's free doesn't mean it's crap, it's a good program. It doesn't have tempo control but you can adjust the Key easily.

Try the autokj/winamp. If you can't find the files by doing a Yahoo or Google search, email me at rpstogie at yahoo dot com and I will email the files to you.

Good luck.

This is why I wouldn't consider ripping to any format except MP3+G.

If you do that, you can save it in files that are readily identifiable and are playable on any of a dozen different programs. I have MTU Hoster, but I got frustrated with their ripping process (and poor database when I did it) and moved to ripping to MP3+G with another program. Since I did it as I bought disks, it took me hundreds of hours but over a two year period. 8-)

Once you do that, you can import them very fast into Hoster. And when you convert to Compuhost, like I did, no re-rip is necessary.

I have the 500 and so far not a problem. I have only had it for a couple of weeks and have ripped about 110 cdgs to it thru CDGRIP.

I have the 500GB. Haven't really familiarized myself with all that it does...was kind of to the point of running out of bucks by the time I got to the backup book.  But it matches, size wise, the mirrored 500GB drives in my shuttle.

Hey, I'll watch for the shuttle, and I'd like about 10 red-headed sluts - I believe that is the only thing that will relieve all the BUILT UP TENSION!

Have you informed MTU about this? they have or I should say had some good supports, it's been a while for me... i've tested Hoster many times at home but I just can't stand the sound that comes out of any of their software, but that's me, don't pay attention to it!

Update: Managed to recover 60% of my songs (the backup I did was unfortunately a backup of the .kma library AFTER some of the songs had disappeared). But HEY, I'm now looking at just reinstalling the Pioneer series and a few others....And the ones I am having to reload are already in the system with a book root ID so I only have to go in and insert the 'check marks' and reload.

Palpable relief on my end ... will backup onto the 500GB Western Digital "BOOK" after each session, before turning off computer, but I believe they have probably fixed the problem...I uploaded one disc last night after I got home from my gig, turned off the computer, and it was still there this morning WOOHOOO!
