Figured I'd share this,  not sure if it's genuinely a concern, know nothing about it other than the source of this warning was family and sincere. My family does exchange the "E-cards",  quite I few I know do as well, and assuming I received something cloned from my address book stating a family member sent me a card,  I would open it..

Can a virus "burn" a sector ?
======================================================

Just received this today:

Subject: New Virus Coming Do Not Open It

Hi All, a friend of mine checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!

I checked snopes.com, and it is for real!! http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp

Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!

You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD,' regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it. Shut down your computer immediately.

This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

It's interesting that Snopes as recently as a Februrary 18th 2008 update has the Virus listed under McAfee as a legit virus.  Wonder why ?

Some Viruses Come Pre-Installed
Published: 3/14/08, 7:28 AM EDT
By JORDAN ROBERTSON
(AP) - From iPods to navigation systems, some of today's hottest gadgets are landing on store shelves with some unwanted extras from the factory - pre-installed viruses that steal passwords, open doors for hackers and make computers spew spam.

Computer users have been warned for years about virus threats from downloading Internet porn and opening suspicious e-mail attachments. Now they run the risk of picking up a digital infection just by plugging a new gizmo into their PCs.

Recent cases reviewed by The Associated Press include some of the most widely used tech devices: Apple iPods, digital picture frames sold by Target and Best Buy stores and TomTom navigation gear.

They go on to talk about hard drives too.

I am starting to suspect everything from China.     We did 30 years ago and we still have to today.  LMAO
