Can anybody tell me what year it was when they came out with those funny little cd's with no background video?  (95?) Here in Greeley we had a major distributor of karaoke gear and he had the best cd selection in the state. How much were SC to start with? I'm thinking $20 and went up to about $30. When I started hosting I think I had about 150 of them I had bought as a singer over the years I'm trying to figure out how many years.

Then my first initial investment was almost $3k. SC foundation brick and some off brands CB  MM etc. For 5 or 6 years about 6 THM/Mo... Out of 13k (I have thrown away cd's)  when THM replaced the bad versions. My library is mostly SC & THM.. I havnt bought a SC for years. Anyway it is an effort of of about 12years.

I know they were doing laserdiscs until at least 97 when I bought my last one - $150 per from 92-94, then they fianlly went down to around $100.  Never got a cdg from them as it was just a re-release of their laser library which I already had, but they were in production at that time as they were phasing out the lasers.  SC & MM came into play around 94 up here.  They started out at around $25 then bumped to $35 for a while.  But then most cdg's - regardless of the quality - were running in the $20-30 mark.  Backtage & Standing Ovation discs I remember with a $25 price tage.  All Hits & the original Mega Hits (All Hits as well) were going for $30.  PHM didn't come out until later 95 if I recall, but they were the cheapest at about $20-25.  Chartbuster was around $25 but I didn't think their quality was very good then.

Ok 13 years.. Adding 1000 songs/year averages about 7 cdg's/mo...Do the math....and I dont know about the rest of you I couldnt afford new music without lucrative gigs.

Personally I stopped at 13k...I would rather it be 10k or even 5k.. We could do a show with 1000 songs. Thats 67 cd's.

I think I bought my Pioneer CDGs in '97. I have almost all of them because I got into biz after they stopped making the big discs. Can't replace those, either...

What I thought was interesting about Pioneer phasing out their laser's for  the "new" cd+g format was that they pretty much kept the same "sequences" for their cdg's. Base set was 1-57, next you had the 200 series, then the 300 series. On top of that, there were a number of songs from their lasers that never made it to their cdg's. I'm assuming that was probably due to "renewal" issues...not sure. Actually, I also have "the bulk" of the pioneer cdg's and place them right up there with the prominent manu's of today. I'm fairly certain that lonman was "right on" about when the last laser was available, and I also believe the cdg's "crossed paths" while they were in the process of phasing out/in their product lines.

The Pioneer CD+GS had songs on them the lasers didn't.  They put some newer songs on the higher number CD+GS.   Don't forget the made some DVDs from the lasers too.

DK was the very first disc company wasn't it?

Well of course Pioneer put out songs on cdg that they didn't put out on laser since they were phasing laserdiscs out, so anything new came out on cdg.
DK was the first in cdg only.  Not the first in digital (laser or cdg) technology, they came out about the same time as Pioneer, at the time DK was actually ownerd & distributed by Sony - Pioneers rival!

I had a set of the orignal Pioneer cd+g's well almost I think I had 85 of them and there was 90+

I bought them on Ebay, If I remeber Corretly they sold for more than What I paid for them. I think I paid $300 and when I sold them I got $500.

cd+g's just are not worth what they were in 1995 to 2002

Look at this a friend just sold 1280 cd+g's for $6K.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=015

That's $4.60 a disc.
