Okay, got my first Hoster night under my belt.  My Fri show never has many singers (I think the most I ever had in a rotation there was 9 singers).  I only had one song 'error' out - which is the sequelae of the MTU Hoster software glitch, so will have to reload that one.  Luckily the guy had his own copy with him so we used that. I was able to load singer's discs easily while others were singing. Sound was the same as before - I'm embarrassed to say I don't even know what kind of sound card is in my shuttle.  I have to go into my data base and clean up some 'oops' - wrong song played when choosing the right title. Not sure how that happened at all.

Otherwise I found it was just crazy fast! I set it to automatically load after 8 seconds ... people got up in plenty of time, kept things moving very, very quickly. I was able to change a song for someone in about 10 seconds (I type for a living so I'm real fast on the keyboard) from "no, I don't like this one, to hey, I like this one."

I'm curious to see how it goes with a big rotation (our Monday night show is usually heavy rotation). Not crazy about sitting at a table as I do that everyday for my job - going to get one of those "sit-stand" chairs so I'm actually standing.

Otherwise it went very well. Certainly different when there isn't a case of CDGs to glance at - I sing probably 400 songs and I couldn't remember even ONE title when I started the show  (I sing 1st song)  - I'm lazy, will just pull a disc because I know where the songs are that I sing (in the cases).

Glad I did it ... and am looking forward to making the mind shift that comes along with everything being 'in the computer' instead of 'in the cases.'

Glad it all went great! Since I'm using a basic player I'm still thinking discs and probably will until I get a hosting program because all songs are in folders with their old disc numbers so I can find them.

So far on mine everything has been where it's supposed to be, which is amazing since I'm not a good typer. But I've only done two nights and I'm sure there are errors in there somewhere.

On Thursday someone came in with his own discs. Just dumb luck because this never happens normally in my room. I didn't even think about the possibility. I didn't try to load his disc in while the current singer was up because I'd never done it at home and wasn't sure what would happen. But he only stuck around for one round so I didn't have to sweat it out the whole night.

It wasn't his type of place. He and his wife left right after phatboy (who generally ignores the screen and can break into extemporaneous rap loaded with the F bomb at any given moment, much to the approval of the room) did his thing  on Cupid's Chokehold. I think he got a chorus in here and there this time through.

Congratulations Karen. I know it made my life easier by going digital, using the Hoster. It's save so much time setting up singers.

As for the oops you encountered. That happened to me on one disc, the culprit was a bad database information. It seemed that disc was missing the first song but database had it. So the songs got shifted by one song. Check to see if that happened. If it did, it's a pain to fix because you have to do it manually. Second problem I had with the database if wrong artist for the song. For example, some of the Queen's songs were listed a Queen Latifah. Had to fix it manually.

I haven't updated my Hoster in a bit. I may have to do that to see if it fixed those bugs. Good luck.

The database isn't updated since 2004.  They do have the free online database they use, but often times it's not in the same format & you have to end up re-typing anyway.  They are talking about updating to current but it will be an extra charge - just like any of the book maker database programs.
The Queen Latifah, was just bad entering, wasn't a glitch.  Which version are you running, the 3.321 is out now.

Now the advice I would give to you because you will eventually find more, have a defective song log sitting next to you & write them down, beit just graphic confetti on the screen or downright bad imports, or wrong titles (I had a couple of these myself - not sure if it wasn't my entering wrong data).  ANY computer imports can generate these types of errors.  When this happens just do a reburn of that song, you don't have to do the entire disc, but may want to at least check the song right before & right after the bad song.
What do you mean sound was the same as before?  Is this a bad thing or did it sound good?

I've got a few discs to reenter I'm sure - when I did the recovery after the first upload was completed, many discs showed the songs as imported but they weren't - they errored. Maybe 6 out of 10 songs showed as being imported and I figured out that I just had to re-rip the entire disc when that happened.

Re: Sound. I had read reports where people thought their sound cards weren't adequate. My sound was as good as it was with players - I didn't know what to expect after reading all about that previously.

All in all a very positive experience - I feel like I've made that technology shift after waiting an awfully long time to do it.

Oh, funny about the Queen Latifah versus Queen - Mine did that too! Even on the songs that loaded through the database - had to go in and delete all references to "Latifah."  Good for a laugh, though.
