Up here in State College...

36 but only got interested recently and have found I have a decent (albeit limited) baritone. I happen to be in a competetion loosely modeled around "American Idol" and am looking for pointers on stage presence (I'm totally at a loss as how to "shake my booty" to Folsom Prison Blues, for instance.) Also, I'd like to know the best way to pick up certain songs (in particular Dead Flowers which no KJ seems to have, presumably because of the drug references.)

Anyway, hello and thanks!

Hello PA.. First Welcome, now the question, Are from PA, or just there for school?
There are a few of us here from PA, and the area. I'm also a Bass/Baritone, and as for songs All I can say is keep hunting, sounds like you're on the right track.. As for stage presence, I listen to the music, and go from there, think of the song, and what you would see if you were watching the Org. singer due it. Folsom Prison, JC, had his git. in his hands so the moves were mostly sways, and pumps with it. One of my standards in the clubs is Mel Carter's "hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me".. My movements go pretty much along with the key lines in the song.Another good one is "The Stroll", Do a little bit of it, but not enough to take away from your singing, Just enough to get the crowd going.. I grew up in Philly, in the 50's - 60's so this seems easy for me, always loved to dance, just never really sang (except on street corners) till last year.. Hope this is some help.. Your Friend....Tom
