Many of my favorite songs have already been subbed by others. (Especially lately. Evil forces at work? or just bad karma? I can't think of anything I've done that was this evil.) I digress... it's just coincidence. :) Anyway... the FAQ says to wait at least a week to sub your own version. This does not seem long enough to me. The last thing I want to do is step on anyone's toes, especially being the new guy. What do you suggest the proper etiquette is in this situation? |

I personally think a week is too long. I dont know what proper is but I will usually wait a couple of days or at least until the song is off the first page. Let your consious be your guide. |

As far as I've ever been concerned it's all for fun. If someone wants to post the same song I did right after mine it's fine with me. ( Unless they did it better) LOL LOL I myself though usually do a search before I post one and make sure it hasn't been done within about 2 weeks just because I know that it does bother some people. |

Exactly how I see it. There's no song I can submit at anytime that would pose a threat to a "Singer". That aside, To expect people to do a general search for a song to see where it may exist on the Showcase (prior to submitting same particular song) isn't reasonable. Personally, I'd search the top 3-4 pages to see if the song has already been sub'd, yet this isn't an established rule (just my own thing). Unless a person on an ongoing basis appears to coincidently post identicle songs within a VERY brief time of another individual (and is perceived by a few other members to have some deliberate negative intent associated in doing-so), adults using common sense is the best rule of thumb. Stuff happens, two people MAY post same song at same minute and have no intent to step on toes, yet also no means of avoiding this, such is life.. In a live chat setting where I sometimes emit (what is intended to be singing) noises there's a girl that loves singing Pink Floyd. Assuming I wish to hack up a Floyd song and she's in the room I just ask her if she has sub'd the song, or planned to because I'd like to assuming it's OK... We don't have the same luxury in Singers Showcase, yet searching the top few pages seems reasonable to me so it's what I'd do.. I suppose yet again the Golden Rule "Do Unto Others" and hoping we don't step on others feet doing our own thing is the best we can do in such a setting where there's a tacit understanding that folks do have egos, and need to get along as adults.. Fact is some are bothered by a person posting the same song within a page or two as them, others are not. Assuming I do my best to perform a song that I am proud of, and a better singer just happens to come along and kick my butt on the same song, yeah.. It can make me feel pretty bad assuming I wish to avoid competitive scenerios.. Should it make me feel bad ? Probably not.. Yet artists have egos (and this too should be yet another tacit understanding among adults) I do however try not to post the same songs "OK What Now" posts at anytime, because I realize how painfully jealous he is of me LMAO LMAO |
