My roommate and I are starting a karaoke business. He owns a PA system and I ran a karaoke show for a while using the bar's system. Now that I am starting my own there are many options we want to persue.

We want to be 100% legit but still want to start as cost effectively as possible. We both prefer Sound Choice but it's expensive.

Is it better to get a CAVs system and some Super CDGs or pay for better quality Sound Choice discs?

We could get 3702 songs with no repeats on 3 Super CDGs from Nutech for about a tenth the cost of 1500 Sound Choice songs by getting the Foundations and Bricks. Is Nutech any good?

Please any advice appreciated.

Nutech are not that bad well all manufactures have some hit and miss tracks over all sound choice, chartbuster are at the top you want to be legal very hard these days and even the host that say they are legal have burns for sure to tell you the truth even 10,000 tracks is a small book now a days good luck

No way would I want  NuTech libray as my core.  Yes I have some that I bought in the mid 90's simply because they had stuff that no one else had at the time, but the majority of their stuff is so crappy that I replaced them as soon as I found better versions.  If I were to start all over I would most difnitely go with the SC Foundations & Bricks for my core then buy on requests asap from the clubs you works.

I second that. They did have stuff nobody had a long time ago but it is certainly not good quality. I'd figure out a way to get those cores (Image Makers is often on E-bay for not much, and they make a semi-decent core for not much at all if it's truly a matter of only having $50 to get going)...and then get music by request for where you're at.

You're asking for a specific answer to a question that probably requires a more generalzed discussion.  I recommend that you read "Advise To New KJ's on Song Catalog".  It is on the same screen as this post.  Also see archived material.

I strongly recommend that you become familiar with the online services that provide karaoke tracks for download or for delivery on disc.

IMHO building a catalog comprised primarilly of just one manufacturer, regardless of the manufacturer, is not the way to build a catalog.  Also, review the opportunities on E-bay and the specials on some of the karaoke websites before finalizing in your mind how you want to attack the job of creating your catalog for both the short and long-run

Best of luck
