Still have to get mics for my second system. I would like to talk my son out of the Peavey mics we purchased for his system, (Pvi2) but no luck so far. I know he wants to go to wireless so he just as well let me have them. :oh yeah: What brand of microphone do you think works best for karaoke? Dusty Blue Rose Karaoke |

I'm with Jian - wired SM58s. Search around - they appear on CL once in a while for less, usually with carrying bag and cable. Oh, and don't waste money on poor mic cables. I have 2 wireless SM58s but reserve those for more sophisticated, private parties where I have more control over behavior. I have a couple of Audix that I used to use, fronting live band - same price as 58s, sound decent. K |

Any of the SM-58, Audix OM-2, or Sennheiser E835. All durable, with low handling noise, and most importantly all are cardioid pattern (not supercardioid) which tolerates bad mic positioning much better. I think there are AKG and Audio-Technica mics in the same class, but I don't know the numbers. For wireless, spend the money and get an SM-58. Or the AKG WMS40 works pretty well, and is more durable than it looks. You can get two of the latter for the price of one of the former. |

SM58 is a pretty nice sounding & reliable (big factor when getting dropped by drink people). I've had the same 3 (well 2 now since I finally replaced 1 last year) in use since 94. Replace the mic screens every so often & your mics are as good as new. |

You can get a nice clone grille at audiopile.net for only $5.00, too. UPDATE: audiopile.net is not currently responding for some reason. |

The question was for karaoke use... the ULX Beta58 would not be suitable IMO. Jian gives one good reason, although the Shure mics do stand up to the drop test very well. mckyj57 hits on the main reason... the Beta58 is supercardoid, which has a tighter pattern and is way less tolerant of bad mic handling technique. |

Dusty Blue Rose Karaoke The only true answer is: Whichever one you like ! - If you're asking as a singer than whichever one sounds the best to you. If you're asking as a business person than you have to weigh all the variables like QUALITY DURABILITY COST to determine what's in your budget. The SM58 wired is a tried and true choice of many a KJ and Performer..but some singers like others that fit their Vocal range better etc. There are less costly alternatives like the Shure PG58 about half the price and many KJ's use these for that reason. all in all not a bad alternative. From a KJ point of view I would say that the majority of singers would be satisfied with a SM58 wired. and for $100 well worth the investment . ( NOW $700 FOR A KARAOKE MIC is equivalent to handing out gold pens to write your request slips ) |

The Shure PG-58 is a VERY Respectable microphone at 59$ dollars, and it comes with a 20 ft. xlr cord. |

Tommie - I agree - I also have a PG58. as you say VERY respectable not as good as the SM58 but as far as $50ish mics go ..one of the best buys |

If you are looking for lower cost, I recommend the Behringer XM8500. I have owned 6 of them (I gave some away as tips to KJs, two live at my club) and find them to be about as good as the SM-58. The only thing that the SM-58 -- my favorite mic -- does better is it has lower handling noise. The XM8500 is only $20.00, and it blows away other low-cost mics. Read the reviews at Musician's Friend, they are right on. |

I have both, I use the PG for calling singers ect, as it has a switch (or group songs). I use the SM58 for vocals. I have switched from the PG to the SM mid song and could here the difference plain as day. the SM is much cleaner.that might be why it costs twice as much, but still affordable. I doubt the PG line is as durable, but have not put it to the test. |

I have read a statement from Shure that claims all their mics are built to the same "drop test" standards. That includes both dynamic AND condenser mics! That surprised me, but I have no reason to doubt it. The SM58 certainly has lived up to their claims time and time again from what comments I have seen. No, I'm not willing to go bouncing my Beta87C condenser mic from head height to satisfy anyone's curiosity, so please don't ask! LMAO My wired mic is a PG58, but that doesn't get very much use these days. Yes, the ULX is far better than the PG, as one would expect. And a little bonus is the "silent" switch.... no more thumps from the mic when the switch is operated! |

The best Mic for yourself or to run a karaoke show??? If for yourself, well, that's a personal question, depends on your voice? For me, a shure mic doesn't work, my voice is way too smooth and you can't hear me! I have a sm58 and an audio technica ATM41HE and I tell you, day & night the difference, the sure doesn't come even close to that AT BUT again, that's for me! The sm58 is over rated and used to be THE best, do some shopping, you'll find better for less |
