I'm seriously thinking about putting together a convention for next spring or early summer next year and am wondering what people think of that idea. I have a lot of ideas for workshops with subjects like equipment, sound reproduction, marketing your karaoke business, public relations and karaoke, etc., etc., but would love to hear from others as far as how much interest there would be -- to determine if it is worth the extreme amount of organizing and planning something like that takes. Even after being heavily involved in music and performance for my entire life, I know there are a lot of experts in a lot of fields who could provide a lot of information that I know I would find very edifying --- not to mention just getting together with a ton of people with like interests for 3 days of fun! Not sure if there has been actual 'conventions' but on the Jolt Forum they do have annual social get togethers throughout the country where the forum members meetup in a specified location for a weekend of karaoke. Usually one of the members will host the show including the equipment & music. There have been some times when the owner of karaoke.com (host of Jolt Forum) has attended those as well & I believe some of the Sound Choice heads have met up as well - not sure on this though. But know they both have (along with Chartbuster & Stellar in the past) donated stuff like shirts, gift certs & cdg's for promo gift giveaways. Some of the hosts of those have even went as far as to have t-shirts made up & recorded performances for souvenirs. I have had a couple very small scale ones where some of the members from Oregon to West Canada & a couple of the WA members have met up. About 15-20 people. But some of the ones I mentioned have gathered from all over & upwards to 100 people. |

I would love to attend, and since I have family in Seattle and a business near Spokane the northwest is a common trip for me. Give me a few months notice and I will be sure to attend.... |

But some of the ones I mentioned have gathered from all over & upwards to 100 people. I'm thinking in terms of fairly big here - nationwide - with displays by equipment companies; workshops by professional vocal instructors, marketing people, etc. I envision a 3-day weekend with Friday sign in, get your room, do your own thing Friday night; Saturday a.m. visit displays and talks to reps, attend workshops Saturday; maybe banquet and karaoke in multiple rooms with guest hosts in the evening, etc. Sunday big brunch. Be nice to have some sort of fundraiser for a deserving organization - raffles for things, prizes from sponsors, etc. I've gone to a number of conventions in the past related to singing and everyone looked forward to it every year - it was through a big group in California and we'd have upwards of 1000 people every year. Like I said in my OP, I have no idea if there is interest but I think it would be a great and informative yet fun, fun event.... I'm anxious to know if there is interest. K |

They have something like that, not entirely dedicated to karaoke, but to all electronics/dj/karaoke/gadgets, the NAMM in Vegas every year. But I would like to see one around here as well. |

Personally I would be more interested in an informal get-together of us PNW hosts on a day off like a Monday. Just to meet everyone and shoot the breeze. Talk about our rooms, equipment, and general karaoke stuff. Maybe hang out in a room that night and do some singing. But I'm just one voice here... go for it if you get some interest. |
