I'm just curious to see if anyone agrees with me...

I was "watching" the site for quite a while and I've made an observation.
It's sure very nice to have so many friends on here that support eachother, but sometimes we seem to forget that this is a singing site ;)
I've seen lots of new members lately, but they left the site again as fast as they came.

Think we all sub our songs on here for others to listen, and I'm sure I'm right, when I'm saying that nothing is nicer, than to get some feedback as well (and not only on the first song). I've heard so many great singers on here that got no attention, no matter how good they were. Could be very dissapointing, especially for new ones, or some that took a longer break. Family and cliques are ok, but you should give everybody the same chance they deserve, no matter if they belong to your friends or not...don't you think? ;)

Think the most popular pretext why the most don't, is because they are not commenting that much, or not at all....well, maybe some don't have the time some others on here have, but they still want to share that what we all here love so much..their music.

That was just a fair thought...wish you all a nice day and happy posting :)

I still gotta listen to the songs people have subbed--I haven't listened to any of them yet.  (I should at least check out a few, anyway--I looked at the index the other day, and there sure have been a lot of 'em!)  I've never subbed anything 'cause I don't know how.  I don't have a microphone, for one thing.

I guess I could say that I agree with you Mona. Just in the last few days & weeks I have heard a few songs that were just as good as the "originals" that we hear on the radio and there would be 1 or maybe 2 comments .
I don't know particular reasons for such, but I do know that it's sad that some do not get the chance for a fair listen.
I do know Mark (keepingitcountry) had a nice song on last Friday under a different "new" name and got skipped so bad he ended up taking his song off.....all because no body knew his name.

I totally agree. I don't really participate much in there lately (though I used to be a daily regular) , but I DO spend time listening down the page as often as I can. (yes, shame on me, I don't normally comment tho- I just listen) You hear quite a few very good singers that get to the bottom of the page with just a few comments. (sometimes... when, personally, I think they deserved a standing ovation)
Then, you hear subs that are not done so well, and they have quadruple the comments.

This has went on here from day one. People who comment alot, get alot of comments in return. People get popular from socializing more, they get alot of comments, then you get a bit of "monkey see, monkey do"... lots of people do the "Hey, that person has 20+ comments, I should go listen and comment too". You know- they see a crowd gathering and don't know why, but they want to be a part of it. But that's all good... I mean, we SHOULD make friends here too.

But, it does seem a shame that those who come here ONLY to sing & listen (not necessarily to chit chat) get hardly any comments at all. Even if they DO take the time to reply and to listen to others. Ah well.... I grumped about this once, used to spend most of my time making sure those people got my listen atleast... I even suggested to Phil once that we should have it to where you can't sub at all until you've posted atleast 10 comments that day. But it's all still the same... and will stay that way.

I'm just babbling cause I'm getting hungry;) But I think your post was very well said.

Mona,
You  make some very good points and I agree. I have noticed the same things but dont think it will change. Everyone probably wants some feedback or comment on their sub with the exception of a few. Sadly the way it works is the more comments you make the more comments you get. There are good singers and new singers that dont get comments primarily because either they dont comment or they dont reply to the comments they get. Its almost like a game. Im not saying whats right or wrong it just seems like thats the way it works. I wish I had more time to listen and comment because I know I'm missing a lot of good subs. My beauty rest is very important even though it seems to be not working. How do you make it more about singing and less about all the other stuff? I dont know. Is that what most people want? I dont know. It seems that its as much about socializing as singing. I dont know if thats a bad thing or not. There are cliques and friends here but thats the same as everywhere.  I know you take your singing seriously as I do and try to get a song right but thats just the way we are. Everyone may not be like that although I do think that most people are doing the best they can its just that there are many different levels of ability on SS. I have to remind myself its karaoke and its really for fun. I've rambled on enough but I really do see where you are coming from.

well typically I will stand up to be counted...I will listen 1,2 even 3 times to a singer. But if by then they havent begun listening and commenting on others then I pass them by.

If I want to listen to music without interaction then I will put on a cd. For me the reason I am here is the social interaction and the friendships developed.

If it makes me a bad person for seeing, listening and responding the way I do, then I am a bad person...but ya know I am not gonna lose sleep over it  LMAO

without calling names,If anybody would like to look, we have a "regular" member on pages 1 & 2 as of this writing with 4 nice songs that seems by his comments ready to throw in the towel for this very reason.
And yes, we have all seen it before....someone will post their "farewell" song and then everyone will "rally" them back saying they are sorry for not commenting for whatever reasons.

You're a bad, bad person;)

Now go take a tranquilizer and get some zzzzzz's.

LMAO

I don't think that's what anyone means... I think everyone is just stating it as it is. Not knocking those with lots of comments, rather saying why can't  everyone (especially when they have lots of time in SS) take a few minutes to listen to those who have, say, 1-6 comments only?

.

Yep, seen it PLENTY of times before. And while I think everyone (if playing the game fairly) should get comments and not be passed over for more popular people... I think before crying wolf, the person should ponder WHY they are being passed over. I don't go for pity parties either;)

(wow... I REALLY need to go have some lunch, hunger makes me bytchy)  LMAO

I agree with you both Mandi & Vicki.....some people do refuse to answer back with a reply and I do end up skipping them myself in the future.
On the same token I don't expect a "payback" comment either. I want my song if it's good enough to stand on it's own. Some people may not like different genres and I can respect that with all due respect. I know I would personally enjoy it even if I just got a few if I knew that the few that were real and I knew they really enjoyed the song.

if they are long time members Charm ya gotta wonder why they have so few. for instance I have noticed that its been kinda slow for everyone over the last couple of days. One can normally sub a song a day without having two songs on the first half of the page...folks just arent subbing or commenting as much...I guess that means the weather is getting better for the nthern hemisphere folks

Yeah, I agree.  If you don't have time to comment some, and reply to your own... you should sub L only, or refrain.  If some are getting low comments because of subbing n' running off... then that's their just dessert. (they're not playing fair)

But I'm not gonna hash that, been there done that. ('bout 50 times...)

Ah, yeah, I've seen lots of times there seems to be hardly anyone participating, then it goes crazy in there and you get 10 comments the first 15 minutes your song is posted... then you'll see another day where songs sit for EVER with hardly any listens.
Trust me, it's NOT the weather here.  LMAO  It's still raining like hell here in the Great Northwest. (day'm it anyhow, i'm ready for summer to come in full blast)

yep I agree, most know I dont listen to anything that has inspirational as a tag or god in the name...but like it or not the site is political to a degree. While I dont troll for comments, it certainly could be construed as such if (as has been the case recently) I havent been around, then comment on the front page before subbing. Fact is, I hate subbing and expecting people to comment if I havent been able to return the favour.

I dont know what else to say...most folks that return the favour and respond to their comments and listen to and comment on others end up being listened to in turn...its not rocket science...as to those who dont respond to comments made to them and never bother to acknowledge folks who take time for them, then I make no apologies for passing them by...like I said...If I want to listen to an outstanding singer who doesnt do interaction then I will put on a cd, I have quite a collection

Yep, I think that's pretty much what everyone has said. You listen & comment & interact more, you get more comments.... and no, it's not rocket science, more like brain surgery.

Now, I could open a big ol' can of worms and talk about the nature of comments ... and the fact how more often equals fluffier... but I wont go into that. I'd most likely end up eating that can o' worms. (gosh, but my hunger is REALLY taking over my body at the moment... i wouldn't normally eat worms)
