I have had a strong desire to become an independent (portable)  KJ for a very long time.

I've decided to do it now!  I am ready to start purchasing equipment but I am not very tech-savy...

I've been warned that a lot of sound equipment that is labled "karaoke" may not be good quality....

I have a laptop that is capable of playing cd+g so I am wondering if I should just look for files or convert cd's  to computer files and use my laptop to run shows...

I need to purchase a mixer, speakers, etc....

Any advice for someone brand new with a strong drive to make this happen....?

What is your budget?   And how good do you want to be?

Welcome

Welcome to KS.
Stick around and try reading the relevant threads in the Tech Forum. Then ask specific questions.

Good luck.

Triple that.   Keep saving.

Music is the biggest expense.

Then PS system.

Stay away from "karaoke" equipment.   It's usually marginal.

If I am going to run a show on my laptop, how should I begin my music collection?  Should I purchase files somehow, or do I need to buy cd+g's and convert them onto my laptop...?
