Post subject:  What's In A Name?
[font=Verdana]My son and I are both going to be operating under the Blue Rose Karaoke logo, but we are going to have different style shows.  His is directed mainly towards the younger crowd where anything goes, and I will feel more comfortable with more 'mature' singers and audience.  I am looking for suggestions on how we can state the difference in advertising our shows, without coming right out and saying my shows are for 'old farts' only.... LOL   I don't want to discourage young people from attending my shows, but there won't be any rap, scream rock, or songs with questionable lyrics.  One idea I have come up with is adding the word 'classic' to my show. ie; Blue Rose Classic Karaoke.  Looking for opinions and/or suggestions of how this might be accomplished without alienating any age group.[/font]

It depends on how you want to use your logo, but it may be that all you'll need to do is put "Host: you" or "Host: son" under the name. And if you need to a brief description under that. But I'd keep the name the same.

As I'm sure you know, a clean show won't restrict you to "old farts". There are a lot of young country singers out there and that's all clean for the most part. The term classic karaoke may scare them off.

I agree, Bill - no sense in cutting out any of the marketshare by terming it that. In our area, "classic" anything is equated with OLD! Sad as it seems, classic anything has become that.

BlueRose, I agree that by including different names ( Yours and your sons ) and by having a customized song book without the songs you don't want sung, that eventually people will figure it out for themselves. I actually would love to have an option like that around here. I'll bet there will be some younger people that will like those songs and that environment as well. I still sneak in an oldie here and there, I did " Day after Day " by Badfinger last week and it went over OK. Rudy.

 The idea you have is great :hi5: !! I call my show "OLDE TYME KARAOKE", and it's geared specifically to the "mature" audience. When I'm "interveiwed" for new gigs (I only want one per week...but have been offered more) the people always seem to like the idea that some of the "younger crowd" won't be at my shows because they know I don't carry "their" music. If they want to "hang around" that's fine. If they want to sing songs, by their standards, that are "old", that's fine too. There are plenty of other venues in my area that cater to them, and MOSTLY them. From what I've seen, I'm the only one around geared specifically for the "older" crowd. That's a plus for the owner who doesn't want to deal with some of the problems that can arise with the younger crowd ( no offense people ) and it's a very attractive scenario for patrons who enjoy a more "laid back" atmosphere. It's a win-win situation for all. So....go with it and enjoy. I think you're going to be pleasently surprised. :handshake:

Put "Specializing in oldies" on the logo. It doesnt limit you to anything.

From my experience, youngsters who enjoy the oldies, seem to have had a lot of quality time with their parents over the years.........they are almost always.....well mannered, and exemplify what karaoke is all about.....some of us old folks actually treat the newer music with the same respect......."variety is the spice of life".....my wife says, but don't be tryin' to play that sh!t when it comes to sex..... LMAO ....you remember Lorenna Bobbit don't you.......aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh

This is not to be taken the wrong way, i'm just making a statement.

I think, by the age in your discription, they will get the hint when they see you.  :whistle:   I'll be there someday soon myself. LMAO

I do your type of show.   I make a point of telling any new bar owners that may want to hire me that my book is edited and they always like that idea.   Never had one say sorry, we want a wild crowd that's going to swear and fight all night long. :O

Please accept my sincere apologies. :hug: :wave:   Just my observation and i don't think you have to worry about it.   They show will find it's own crowd and it will be determined by the songs that are there to be sung.

But the "classic" (or maybe "Original") thing sounds like a good idea, especially if they are talking to you on the phone, you could give them the option of picking the type of show they want.   Could be a good selling point.
