Ok so I recently bought a new laptop from Dell.com, a Vostro 1500 and admittedly the Vostro line is from the business line however I was very surprised to find that I could not get the text to work with my brand new CD+G disk that I picked up from my local store.  I am using Karafun and I can get the background to show up and the music to play but i get no text.  I was hoping that I was just missing a setting somewhere but I can’t seem to find if I’m missing something.
So now I’m going to buy a CD/DVD burner for my desktop, and I don’t want to mess this one up too so I’m asking for recommendations on what drive to buy?  Any suggestions are appreciated :)

I have two good gateway laptops. they do not like to rip cdgs either. have 2 drives in our PC and one of them works with audiograber. drives are fussy with cdg and I don't know why. others can explain better im sure.

Strange, I also have a Dell Vostro and I can read the graphic?  You might want to test using Microstudio from MTU.com and see if your drive can read the graphic, it should with this program.  Karafun might only support the old drive method??? Audiograbber will work too but you'll get a lot of broken letters with this drive.

Thanks guys!  I'll try the trial versions of those  to see if I can get text to show with my cg+gs.
Yeah when I built my Vostro there was I think 2 if not three drives to choose from, a plain cdr/dvd rom drive a cdr/dvd-r drive and one with light scribe... I chose the plain drive to save on total cost.

You must look at the specs of the different formats the player will play and see this (CD+G) in there somewhere.    The (+G) is the words on the screen.

BULL... powerkaraoke works with MANY burners that other ripping software won't work with.

It used to be you had to have Pioneer or Plextor discs... even the Lite-ons were good ones. But I've been pretty impressed with powerkaraoke's ability to use most drives that fit in desktop/towers and many of the ones used in laptops!

Not true anymore, most drive show not compatible with cdg but in fact they are! You simply need a software capable of reading with the Deinterleave mode (not sure it's spelled right) and the suggested software here do.
