Karen, thanks for the link. Interesting info. I will not be displacing any sales as I build my library in an ethical manner
Sound Choice is being boycotted by them because of copyright issues (Eagles, Celine Dion, etc.). I've noticed in most Chart Buster songs, they change a few notes and lyrics... I'm assuming they do that intentionally
Sure would be nice to have a few karaoke manufacturers who had good quality AND totally legit (the price that SC charges, you would think they would be, but I guess not)
Most of the bands you mentioned had either given permission & retracted after the fact or they released a disc on the premise that they would be given permission (ie the Eagles disc - Don Henley & Glenn Frey admittadly HATE karaoke & will not allow anything that they (Henley/Frey) wrote to be released). Once they found that not to be the case, they immediately pulled the disc from the shelves. Alanis Morissette had given permission for her songs at one point, then after a couple years pulled the rights back - making those discs pulled from the market. Same went for Pearl Jam & other Seattle bands. Not all the discs were done without proper licensing, however many did change their mind.
Garth Brooks pulled all his rights as well, Chartbuster was in a lawsuit not too long ago for continuing to produce Garth Brooks tracks.
As far as Sound Choice prices, they are in line with any other manufacturer these days if you buy from a an internet store & not direct from the manu - they say they do this only because they do not want to compete against their distributors.
