Hi all,

So myself and a friend are pretty good singers, good show people and we have experience of using a CD+G player with 1 CD at a time manually selecting songs.  We are branching out to a new venue and are after some advice.  We have $1500 -$2000 of the venues money to spend on equipment for this venture.

So what do we need?  We have no music or any sort of player but we have a PA, a good sized TV with up to date ports.  The place also has speakers.  These are used to good effect at an open mike night.  I would like to go for a laptop based system using CD+G files, a mixing desk etc etc.  Its not a karaoke bar but we would still like to to make a great impression.  So give us lists of what we need right down to the cables and the best value brands to go for and advice for relatively new KJs.  We are both pretty good at setting up AV equipment but are not roadies.

Thanks

Let me see... you're gonna borrow the CDGs so you can create a PC based system?  Sounds like you need professional legal advice, before spending money on hardware!

There are many options.

I have a Dell Inspiron 710 laptop and CompuHost software. That is basically all you need for the player portion. You will need the appropriate cable (1/8 stereo to 1/4 mono) to feed it to your mixer, and you will have to examine how to route the S-Video or VGA signal of the laptop to the televisions you want to use.

This is considered pirating & is very illegal.  You need to own the originals that you have on your computer.
