Post subject:  Audacity recording software

It was suggested that I try using Audacity software for recording.

I downloaded the software onto my desktop computer.  The prgram provides a drop-down window and on my desktop that window offered the following options:
"Wave", "Tad-in", "Auxiliary", "Microphone", "Line-In", "CD-Audio", MIDI, "CD Digital". "SPDIF-In". "Record Master".

I tried recording a karaoke track played by my Sax Dottie/Winamp software (without any singing) using the "Record Master" setting.  It worked fine.

With that success, I installed the Audacity program on my show laptop. I found after doing so that the drop-down window offered only four options and "Record Master" was not one of them.

Can anyone explain/help/clarify what I am looking at and why the difference between the two computers?

It look like it has something to do with your sound card. Try going to your Vol control (cone icon at the bottom right),> option > record and you may add or input option by ticking the box.

hope that help.

Jian is correct. Audacity can only use the options available from your sound card. I use Audacity exclusively for my recording. What I like to do is take a backing .mp3 file and use the "Project" / "Import Audio". I then record separate tracks after that. It enables me to put effects and control volume on each track. There are a few great tutorials out there if you google it. Have fun!~! :-)
