Name that tune? Not karaoke name that tune just with regular music? One of my bars is adding it on an off night. On Saturday night the sucky KJ is being replaced by a Video DJ. How popular is that? I haven't seen one since they started making music videos in the 80s. I don't get out much.... ![]() |

Name that Tune..for what-drinks or prizes? Without rewards, it might get boring real fast..? VJ are extremely popular in NY CA, FLA, and HI. It is universally MORE appealing to watch a video while dancing- makes you feel like you're "in it" when the image is huge. ![]() In Miamis' South Beach, rooftop parties which are common, vjs project onto other nearby buildings making the images 50 feet high- cool effect- no need for dj lights. New York and Cali utilize their 4 walls to project the videos surrounding the dancefloor. I've VJ'd with Promo-Only Hot Videos for 6 years now. They release all NEW music in many formats and the vids costs less than buying single songs on itunes- each video is like $.069 and each dvd has like 50 on it. It also adds to the whole dancing experience and gives you something "hot" (britney, beyonce) to look at, in case your dance partner isn't so... ![]() Name that tune with tv themes for prizes at mitsvahs and retirement parties-done that in past years and they went over pretty well. |

Now here's the kicker. The bar doesn't have an actual dance floor. It's all ceramic. Can you say "Break your leg" in a grout crack? ![]() ![]() |

Ceramic dancefloor? BIG mistake. Care to mention "drink spillage" to the owner? And if they come back with "Drinks aren't allowed on the dancefloor" then they are niaive. |

And when it's wet it's very slippery. I almost went down several times and a guy slipped right in front of my table last week. Walking. |

A ub I run a weekly quiz at has a very large room. It's recently been refurbished, and I have been working at upgrading their house PA system, wiring it through etc - basically making it easier for myself (or anyone else) to plug into and just run quizzes, etc (no good for loud stuff like Karaoke or DJ). Anyhow, upon ripping up the carpet, we find a GORGEOUS wooden floor. We were VERY tempted to leave an area as wood (as opposed to laying the new carpet) as a dancefloor. But the prblems it would invite were huge. Spill 1 drink, 1 person falls and injurs themselves - it's just not worth the hassel. I can only imagine the crap that a ceramic floor could produce. I sure wouldn't like to fall on it! And the odds on falling on wet ceramic are vastly higher than wood! |

I'm wondering how many kjs or djs here carry General Liability Insurance in case there's an accident that could blamed on them and they could be sued...? I know at least one DJ that had a speaker fall on a child and bust his head open. Having no insurance, the dj paid out of pocket almost $6000 for the injury, (ambulance, medical, traction, rehab, pain/suffering) although the child was the one that ran into the speaker trying to climb the speaker stand to touch the top of the speaker. When i 1st got my business incorporated in '98, my lawyer absolutely insisted i get business insurance with at least $5,000,000 aggregate to cover all equipment (dj, concessions, moonbounces, rockwalls) and i've never been without it. So WHO has or Has Not (general liability insurance) and WHY or Why Not?? |

I wasn't going to get it until a little kid fell on my speaker wire. Had it the very next day. ![]() I should mention that the speaker was at fault for running around like a nut. ![]() |
